BACK WHERE YOU STARTED

Good morning everyone.  Happy Thursday.  Have you ever watched a dog chasing its own tail?  Its funny isn't it?  Our human minds think we are so much smarter than that pooch running in circles getting nowhere nor catching said appendage.

Funnier yet is that we tend to replicate the same behavior as these furry mammals chasing a tail that doesn't exist.  If a different outcome is desired it is time to slow down and give serious consideration to our repetitive ways.

Today's quote is, "Circular motion is exhausting yet is also no motion at all."  Unless you are on a track team, running in circles is a waste of time.  Knowing what works and what doesn't is what we must figure out.

We've been gifted with a wonderful, thinking brain, a brain much more sophisticated than our beloved pets no matter how smart we think they are.  When mistakes are made over and over again,  you have to wonder if it is no longer a mistake but a choice.  Positive results come from positive actions.

Albert Einstein coined it beautifully stating the definition of insanity is "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result."  I trust that we are not insane.  I trust that you choose to make wise decisions and I trust that running in circles will not only leave you exhausted but dizzy as well.

Use that beautiful brain to the best of your ability and be mindful of your behaviors and actions and I am certain that the results you are aiming for will be achieved.

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

SPEAKING IN LOW TONES

Good morning everyone!  Happy Tuesday.  Are you a loud talker?  I tend to speak very softly.  I actually have a hard time speaking loudly unless of course I'm yelling to find out who left an inch of milk in the fridge.  Then I'm sure that even the neighbors can hear me.

Are you aware that something else can be spoken using your softest voice?  That something is your character.  That part of you that comes through by the words you use and the way you use them.  Today's quote is, "The volume of your character is heard through what you say and how it is spoken."

I love sarcasm but sarcasm used inappropriately can be mean and cutting.  If that is your intention what does that say about your character?  Words are powerful enough without adding an unnecessary bite.  Years ago I had heard of a local consignment shop that sold clothing.  My kids were young, I had a lot of clothes I no longer wore and I thought it might be a good way to make some extra cash.

I brought three hefty bags full of clothing to the owner.  Unaware that she only took designer duds, my bags were filled with clothes from The Gap, TJMaxx and Marshalls.  Rather than lying to me, (yes, in this case a white lie would have been fine) she looked at me in disgust and in quite a nasty tone said, "I can't sell these, they are all out of style and no one would wear these."

I have good taste and thought of myself as a spiffy dresser.  Guess she set me straight.  I walked out filled with doubt but also embarrassment.  I felt horrible.  Here I was an adult woman almost in tears because someone not only didn't want what I had but insulted me as well.

Could this have been handled differently?  Of course.  That's where the white lie comes in.  Her character came through in flying shades of fushia.  Speak your mind, say what you mean but speak as though you are on the other end of that conversation.  If you do you are sure to speak with kindness, compassion and love.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

PAYING IT FORWARD

Good morning everyone.  Happy Thursday.  I get that we can't be upbeat and chipper every second of every single day.  There are days that begin with a wish of being back in our cozy bed ASAP, days where we can't wait to get out of the front door and yet days that simply flow, not terribly exciting but not horrible either.

Each and every day is different.  So is every week, month and year but the important thing is that you are here.  You are here to make your mark!  I hope I didn't frighten you with that statement because instilling fear is NOT my goal.  But seriously, how are you going to share with the world and in what way will you go about it?  What I do believe is that we all have a gift to share for we have been given the greatest gift of all.

Today's quote is, "Our birth is a miracle of creation - what is the magic you will give in return."  Life itself is a gift.  How will we thank our creator for creating us?  In what way will we give back.  Now by no means does this involve nuclear physics.  If it did then I for one would be out!

Reiki is the way in which I give back.  My local bakery makes the absolute best jelly donuts in the world and that is how they give back.  The person who held the door for you is also giving back as is the one who ran after you with the glove that you dropped.  Understand that giving back takes many forms.

We all have a way to share something, a way to help one another and something to give to each other.  Magic is shared in ways that are big, grandiose and larger than life itself but at the same time quiet, discreet and humble.

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

YOUR MESS AND YOURS ALONE - CLEAN IT OR LEAVE IT

Good morning everyone!  Happy Tuesday.  I love when my kids come home.  I don't necessarily like their messy rooms.  I prefer everything in its proper place like clothing either in drawers or in the laundry room rather than the floor.  Of course my kids think I'm neurotic but what can I say, that's just me!

What's your preference?  Neat or messy?  Do you put that laundry away or does it sit on the couch for days and days and days making a seriously comfy spot for the family dog.  To some, neatness is a priority but not for everyone.  I suppose it really doesn't matter.  The important thing is that eventually there's room for you and Fido on the family couch.  An easy mess to fix.

Wouldn't it be great if that was the biggest mess in your life?  But its not.  Far from it.  How do you handle the big stuff?  Today's quote is, "The mess you made is yours to walk through - step over or clean up."  I've just described all of us.  Some will move through like a wind storm, others will ignore what's happening while still others will face whatever it is head on.

It's up to you and you alone to decide.  I used to sleep.  That's how I handled my messes.  You see if I slept long enough I would wake up and everything would be like it was BUT that was never the case.  The ostrich syndrome is one not written in medical journals but I think it is safe to say we all know what it looks like.

Life can be difficult, wonderful, beautiful, challenging, messy, fabulous and crappy on any given day but to improve anything takes the courage and strength to face any problem, crisis or moment of chaos head on.  It might not be your style but the sooner that mess is cleared away, the better you will feel and the cleaner your life will be!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

SUFFERING - BROUGHT TO YOU BY YOU!

Good morning all.  Happy Thursday.  Is it easy for you to change plans and rearrange your schedule or do you get all bent out of shape when things don't go according to the way you had planned?  In life it is important to go with the flow.  One minute you are sailing away calmly and peacefully and all of a sudden there is a gusty wind.  Such is life.

There are many of us out there who have a really difficult time with change.  Its not good or bad but its definitely harder when you lack flexibility and a vision to see something in a new way.  When you are stuck with one way of doing and seeing things, any other way can feel uncomfortable to the point of pain and worse because it is your own doing.

Today's quote is, "What is it that made you suffer - the answer is nothing - you did it yourself."   I am not Buddha but I agree with him 100%.  It is not what is outside of ourselves that causes suffering but what is within us that causes pain, discomfort, and upset.  It is the way we view certain situations.  I speak not of catastrophic events although there are ways to perceive them as well.  That is another blog altogether.

What I am referring to is the daily way we create suffering for ourselves.  The struggle that needn't be there but we invite it in all the time.  So what if your plans changed.  So what if the clouds are out.  So what if your heel broke.  New plans may be more fun.  Clouds will prevent a sunburn and now you get to buy a new pair of shoes.  There is always a different way of looking at things.  The glass half full.  The sunny side of the street.  I think you get my point.

Stop being the one to make yourself suffer.  Be the one who may not get the golden ticket but loves the chocolate even more!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

RELEASE - LET GO - A NEW DOOR AWAITS

Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday.  Do you still carry with you the pain from comments  your mom or dad said to you when you were 10?  What about the comments of a previous boss, a current boss or a complete stranger?  The power and strength words have are enormous especially when they are negative.  Words that would never leave our mouths in day to day conversation may find their way out in anger.

Apologies are a wonderful way of getting the offender off the hook but once caustic words have been said they stick to you like velcro.  They are glued in your mind, your heart, your soul and become incorporated into your very being making them hard to disbelieve.

Today's quote is, "So many things change when you let go of old beliefs and walk through that new door rebirthed as a new version of yourself."  What a burden it is to hold onto those old beliefs!  They're cumbersome, heavy and really uncomfortable but when they are released its as though you took off that itchy sweater and can breathe again.

Think of yourself like a snake shedding its old skin and gliding away without ever looking back!  Let go of what you were told so long ago.  Your own convictions of who you are and your capabilities are the only things that matter.  Stand tall my friends!  You are beautiful!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone~ Love, Amy

OVERNIGHT SUCCESS DOES NOT EXIST

Good morning everyone!  Happy Thursday.  I love a variety of music.  Everyone from Frank Sinatra to Ella Fitzgerald to UB40 to Bossa Nova and Beck.  I also happen to be a huge fan of alternative or Indie music.  Suddenly there are all these groups creating fabulous sounds playing for an audience of thousands.  Just one amazing song and they are on the radio and filling up concert halls.  Lucky them!

That's the usual common collective thought.  A brand new band who comes up with one song and seemingly overnight they are making millions!  The truth is that band is not a new band.  The truth is that "brand new band" has been around for years before receiving recognition.  Elbow, an English band and one of my favorites has been together since 1990.  Arcade Fire, a Canadian group was formed in 2003.  Tame Impala, a hot "new" Australian band met and formed in 2010.

Overnight success?  Hardly.  Today's quote is, "Invisible behind that phenomenal success and overnight sensation lies will, determination and struggle."  If ever man created a misleading term it was the phrase, "overnight success."  It is one that has been romanticized in novels and movies from fiction to biographies.  We take a person, a business or a company and see their success without understanding what it took to get there.

To accomplish anything takes hard work, focus, determination, drive and the knowledge that failure might be part of the equation.  What preceded Madison Square Garden for any of the above mentioned bands was most likely a smelly, smokey, sleazy bar filled with a bunch of drunks who couldn't care less about what they were listening to.

Whatever it is you want to do or be or create, be prepared for the work that's ahead of you.  Be prepared for the failure, sweat, angst, disappointment and struggle you will encounter and when success comes, and it will... be prepared for the accolades, recognition and emotional income it will provide and you will deserve it all!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy
