BREAK THE CYCLE FOR MORE

Good morning everyone!  Happy Wednesday.  Today is the last few hours of my day job until September.  How I look forward to this day and the upcoming months where time belongs to me.  It will look like waking up at 7 and not 4.  Sipping coffee on my deck.  Longer morning walks with Mia.  Clients in the mornings and afternoons.  The ability to create my day as I want.  I know my summer break is a few hours from beginning but I'm already craving more summer.

Not really.  Certainly not yet anyway but I wanted to show you what it looks like to have something great only to be disappointed because you already want more.  Today's quote is, "Break the cycle of desire - for continuous desire assures unending dissatisfaction."  This quote can apply to anything and everything from a yummy dessert to getting a tan.  How can you enjoy that first bite of chocolate cake when you are already thinking of the next one?  If you finally got some sun on that pale skin of yours why do you need to be darker than dark?

That constant quest for more and more and more is a terrible cycle to be in.  It guarantees a never ending search for happiness.  Happiness that will never be found.  I for one don't want to live that way and I don't imagine anyone else would either.  When you eat, eat mindfully.  Let the sun kiss your complexion not burn you to a crisp.  If time off is coming to you, do what you want, and enjoy it to the fullest without thinking about the next time that More time will be yours!  That's what I plan on doing!

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

ACCEPTING HELP WITH GRACE

Good morning everyone!  Happy Monday.  If you are a mom or a dad, take a moment to go back in time when your now grown children were young and fighting for their independence!  I remember my daughter at two years old dressing herself and putting on her cute little shoes without any help from me, insisting she could do it all.

Yesterday as I was leaving a store, I had my hands full.  With several maneuvers I would have been able to open a door but I welcomed the stranger who said, "here, let me help you."  What a relief.  Sure I could have opened that heavy door but it might have resulted in a broken thumb.  Why do we think we can't ask for help?  Why do we think that asking for help is a sign of weakness when our first reaction would be to rescue a dozen eggs falling from a stranger's Trader Joe's bag rather than watching them hit the ground.

Today's quote is, "When help is offered - take it - accept it and be gracious - in time the chance to reciprocate will be upon you."   Maybe our reluctance to accept help is due to a combination of stubbornness and pride but then where do those two useless characteristics take you.  Nowhere fast!  Think of all the times you needed help.  Now think of all the times you needed help and didn't take it or ask for it.  Now think of all the times you not only asked for help but took it.  And finally, think of how different your life would be if you chose to remain obstinate in your request for assistance.

Admit it.  You are far better off when graciously accepting help.  There will always be a time when you will be the one to hold open a door,  carry a package or give advice.  The person on the receiving end will be forever grateful especially if it prevents them from dropping a dozen eggs!

Have a wonderful Monday everyone! ~Love, Amy

CARRY AWAY YOUR SADNESS

Good morning everyone and happy Friday!  Ahhh~we can let the week wash away and release any negativity we may have experienced so that the weekend is welcomed with a fresh outlook and a calm mind.   Let anger, anxiety and any of the stress felt from the previous days fall away from every part of your body.  In my opinion those are the easiest emotions to release.  Sadness on the other hand gets stuck.  It's like an open wound that doesn't heal.  It comes back to haunt us with the melody of a song, a scent, a sound or a texture.

For our own well being and ability to move forward it is sadness that must be released from every cell within us.  Today's quote is, "Let sadness flow like a pebble in a stream - let it be carried out of sight - know it was there and let it be gone."  Visualization works wonders.  Y'all need to try it!  On a serious note, that is exactly what I do during my Guided Meditation class.  I Guide you through a journey to a mountain top, a beach, a field or a cabin in the woods to name a few.

The way we release emotions during my class is to visualize them being placed in a beautiful white box, wrapped up in pink tissue paper so that the emotion is recognized, acknowledged and lovingly released.  This is a method that really seems to work for my students.  Sadness will seep into your core and color your vision unless you find a way to let it go and honestly, who wants to be sad.
Place it in a box, let it flow down a stream or simply vanish into thin air.  Release that sadness and be free to move on!

My day job ends for the summer next week freeing up my mornings and afternoons for Reiki sessions and Guided Meditation classes.   I will be posting my quotes and blogs twice a week rather than every day for the summer on both Facebook and Instagram and will continue with live recordings as well.  As always, I am grateful and thankful for your support.  And remember, I am here for all of you!

Have a wonderful Friday everyone! ~Love, Amy

SUFFERING IS SELF-INDUCED

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday.  This morning as I got out of bed I stubbed my toe on the bed post.  Ouch!  Did that hurt! I can blame the darkness if I want but the bed hasn't changed places in the twenty years it has been there.  It will not be the last time I walk into a still object.  It's kind of a habit of mine.

Did you ever bump into something and blame the something.  "Damn chair!"  Even if the last time the damn chair was moved it was from the Ethan Allen show room to your living room?  That's what we do.  We blame the object instead of our clumsiness.  Let's take this example to a deeper level.  Let's talk about suffering.  Not the most fun topic but something we need to explore.

Most suffering is self-inflicted.  We do things we know we shouldn't do.  We love spicy food but the love is not reciprocated.  We go to places that say "Do Not Enter."  And then when the outcome is bad we blame the situation, the food and the place when it was us who caused our pain.  Today's quote is, "What is it that made you suffer - the answer is nothing - you did it yourself."  Oh the unintentional suffering we cause ourselves.

If only we knew that the situation we were about to dive into would cause us harm we would walk the other way.  Did you ever date the "bad boy or bad girl?"  Our friends warned us but we thought they seemed so much fun until our hearts were broken in half.  This is when we completely ignored our inner voice and our inner wisdom and chose to go with the flow even though we almost drowned.

If  we look over our shoulder at sufferings of our past, we will see that it clearly is us who should be held accountable for our pain.  Every decision should be made with thought and care but if the tendency is to leap before think, own the pain, accept the results and at least learn from it.

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

WEAR YOUR OWN SHOES

Good morning everyone and happy Wednesday.  A neighbor of mine has the most beautifully manicured lawn that's the brightest green I've ever seen.  Her walkway is lined with tall gorgeous trees in full floral bloom on either side.  I don't even have grass.  I have moss.  Lots and lots of moss that's been dug up by lawnmowers and Mia's paws.  I don't have trees lining my walkway but I have ugly bushes in front of my door.  I wanted to get rid of them but they house the bees that pollinate their flowers.

As much as I admire the neighbor's pristine surroundings I still like the dug up dirt and tree roots that stick out of the ground.  You know why?  Because it is mine.  It is the house we chose to live in not caring if it would ever be on the cover of House and Garden.

Today's quote is, "While someone else's shoes may be beautiful you will come to realize the comfort of your own."  An updated version perhaps of the grass is always greener and a message to appreciate what you have.  Am I thankful for my moss covered lawn?  You bet I am.  Do you know why?  Because it's mine.  Because my husband and I worked very hard to purchase a house that over time has become a home filled with beautiful things, beautiful people and a beautiful dog.

Over time we have created a home filled with love both inside and out.  The pristine house on view from the street has tremendous visual appeal but I have no idea what is behind those closed doors.  I am unaware of the happiness or unhappiness that may or may not be pervasive throughout all that square footage.  I will continue to walk Mia past her house, admiring her perfect trees and perfect lawn but I will also be grateful for the bees that come to visit, the gnomes protecting my house and yes, the moss that's been dug up by the most beautiful paws I know.

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

LISTEN TO YOUR HEART

Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday.  Is there something you believe in very strongly?  Of course there is.  Everyone has firm beliefs regarding what it important to them.  When we  believe in something it runs through our core but stems from our heart.  To have a strong belief in anything requires more than just thought but visceral feeling.

Today's quote is "Align your beliefs according to your feeling in your heart."  How can you tell yourself you believe in anything without getting your heart involved?  You can't.  Your heart is the one that knows right from wrong and will tell you every single time.  Aligning your mind together with your heart is important when making any sort of decisions as both are needed.

Think of your heart as your intuition and go with that feeling.  Our emotions, feelings and thoughts are so intertwined.  If you listen to them both carefully and together, you will be sure to make the best decision for yourself.

Have a wonderful Tuesday, everyone! ~Love, Amy

SPEAKING WITHOUT WORDS

Good morning everyone.  Happy Monday.  You can't see me right now but I just yawned which means I'm tired.  My weekend was fun and busy.  I'm missing my pillow right now but we'll have another date tonight.  Walking into my room at work snaps me out of my tired frame of mind as I am warmly greeted by the smile of my co-worker.  We all know what a genuine smile looks like and feels like and most importantly, we know how it makes us feel.

We don't always need words to convey our mood.  Our physical movement says so much.  Today's quote is, "We are all multi-lingual - we speak not just with our voices but with our eyes and our bodies."  Our eyes alone speak volumes!  If any one of you reading this has teenagers you certainly understand that!

It is always important to think before you speak.  I'm pretty sure that was said because even before the words are out of our mouths, we've already spoken a full sentence.  Time for a story!  My wedding anniversary was a few months ago. While I was preparing a celebratory dinner, my husband presented me with a beautiful box.  I LOVE getting gifts and I especially love when a box is wrapped with ribbons and bows, almost too pretty to open.

Well I did open up this box and as soon as I saw what was inside, my husband knew exactly how much I didn't like the necklace he had picked out for me.  I tried very hard to smile but my lips refused.  Without speaking, my expression said it all.  "I love you but not what you bought me."  Did he feel bad?  Yea, but you know what?  This was the first time in 27 years I wasn't happy with my gift.  A pretty impressive record if you ask me!

Body language is called that because that is exactly what it is....language!  Before you've uttered a single word, your entire being has already spoken.

Have a wonderful Monday everyone! ~Love, Amy

THE ROAD TO NEVERLAND DOESN'T EXIST

Good morning everyone!  Happy Friday.  It is said that we spend an enormous amount of time daydreaming.  Some people do this more than others.  Obviously one best not be daydreaming if handling heavy equipment, driving a car or performing surgery but when those tasks are completed you can certainly imagine yourself on a beautiful beach somewhere.

Daydreaming can actually be helpful.  It is a short mental break from an either difficult or mundane task that usually doesn't last too long and doesn't interfere with our day.  Fantasy on the other hand can be dangerous.  Telling ourselves that we will be a famous writer but we

never seem to finish that book.  Telling ourselves that one day we will make it to Broadway even though we can't hum a note.  Telling ourselves that we will make big changes yet continuously do no such thing.

Today's quote is, "Devotion to fantasy will take you down the road to Neverland."  I think you all know that but just in case you weren't sure I am here to confirm it for you.  There is no Neverland.  There is no yellow brick road either.  There is no magical land that exists where you  blink your eyes and become a famous writer, accomplished musician or baker to the stars.

Nothing is accomplished by daydreaming and fantasizing about it.  Action is what makes things happen.  Dream big and set your sights high enough so they are attainable and within reach.  You may have heard the road to Neverland is beautiful but it also doesn't exist.

Have a wonderful Friday everyone! ~Love, Amy

BREAK FREE FROM THE PRISON BARS

Good morning everyone.  Happy Thursday.  Almost Friday.  Almost the weekend.  That means that if you are stuck in an office from 9-5, 5 days a week, you are about to be set free to do what you want without looking at a clock.  We love our freedom.  Not that there is anything wrong with having a schedule, its just that we are the ones who like making our OWN without having to adhere to someone else's.

Weekends are when we can hopefully leave our work life behind.  Something that should also be left behind are the movies we replay in our minds from things that upset us in the past.  Memories of unfortunate incidents and the list of people who wronged us.  Was it their doing or did you allow it to happen?  Either way it really doesn't matter.  What matters is the past is the past and that is where it should remain.

Today's quote is, "You are no longer a prisoner - the past is now behind you."   When you throw something away do you look back or do you walk away?  If you threw something out it means it is no longer needed.  Past hurts and upsets are experiences we don't want to revisit yet sometimes we do just that, over and over again leaving us in a sort of prison of the mind.

OMG - who wants to live there?  I for one don't.  Whatever happened in the past is done.  It's over.  We've all been hurt before and we've all suffered in various ways but reliving that pain will only serve to keep it fresh.  Unclench your mind and set yourself free.

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

BE YOUR OWN HERO

Good morning all and happy Wednesday.  My fourth child came to our family six years ago.  OK everyone.  You can close your mouth now.  I'm talking about my dog Mia who we all call "the baby."  Everyone says this about their pet but I swear mine is human.  For a four legged creature who cannot speak she is able to get her every wish not only noted but granted.  Hence the term of endearment, "the baby."

My son rescued Mia when she was a year old.  She had been neglected and left in a crate with no love or affection.  When a friend asked him if he knew of anyone who could take this dog as their own, my son volunteered.  Saving Mia was the best thing that happened to all of us.  Do you know anyone like that?  A perennial rescuer?  A person who is always saving someone and cleaning up their messes when they themselves could use some help?

Today's quote is, "It is admirable to be a hero but be the first one you save."  Heroism is a wonderful quality to have but if those you save are rising while you are sinking then something is definitely amiss.  If savior is your calling, place yourself at the top of the list. Don't think for one moment you are being selfish because you are not.  All that saving will leave you depleted with nothing left for yourself.

Putting yourself first looks like getting enough rest, eating well and doing the things you enjoy.  Me first is not always a bad thing.  Everyone loves a hero so be one to yourself and love yourself even more.

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

PATIENTLY WAITING FOR YOUR TURN

Good morning all and happy Tuesday.  I recently ordered something on Amazon.  They are so fast it only takes a couple of days to receive your merchandise but when you really want something it's never fast enough.   Eventually that box is left on your doorstep and you can breathe a sigh of relief.

That is what happens with everything we want no matter what it is.  We want it and we want it now but it doesn't always happen that way.  Today's quote is, "Patience my dears - what is meant for you will arrive just not when you want but when you are ready and the stars align."  Oh that is so very true.

We think we want that new job but if we actually gave it some thought we would realize the timing for such a change is completely off!  We desperately want to sell our house but the market is such that we wouldn't get top dollar.  We want this, that, the other but if we look closely we see that now is not the time.  What happens is we don't look closely.  We don't look at all!  We see our wants through emotion and not logic, two things that never see eye to eye.

Things that are meant to be will happen but not necessarily on your terms.  The Universe looks out for all of us.  Even when you are at your lowest point and feel you could sink no lower, know that the Universe is looking out for you and when you are presented with what is meant for you, it will be received in the perfect time.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

BE HERE RIGHT NOW

Good morning everyone!  Happy Monday.  It is always fun to have something to look forward to.  We look forward to sunny days, going to the beach, the first snowfall, meeting up with friends, reading a good book and going to a concert to name but a few.  The problem with anticipation is that it becomes your world.  You reduce your world to what will be and not what is.

Today's quote is, "Appreciate the here and now - not what may or might be."  It is human nature to look forward to things big and small but anticipation of anything makes it hard to focus on where you are at the moment whether you are looking forward to your favorite sandwich or the wedding of a friend.

If you know you are having a lunch date at your favorite restaurant let that happiness remain in the back of your mind.  If it has been established that you will be going, there is no need for your mind to pole vault hours ahead of yourself.  If you have been invited to a wedding at a fabulous destination  know that you will be there on the day of. Allow yourself to be excited, not consumed.

We all say, "I can't wait for...."  I'm just as guilty but what I have changed is the way I look forward to something.  I now do this in a way that is much lighter and without desperation so that while I might be looking forward to soft serve on a cone after dinner I can still savor the meal that's in front of me.

There are so many wonders in this world that we will experience and you absolutely should look forward to them but always be where you are at every moment in time and enjoy every lick of that ice cream cone!

Have a wonderful Monday everyone! ~Love, Amy

THE PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE

Good morning everyone and happy Friday!  My day job will soon be ending for the year and it will be time to wish my co-workers a happy summer until we meet again in September.  There are many people where I work, some of whom I am more friendly with than others and only two that I would consider to be good friends.  Unfortunately for me those two will not be returning so I will be surrounded not by friends but by acquaintances.  That works for me because I am also not particularly attached to my day job.

This "have to" of mine has been very good to me.  It comes with a paycheck and lots of time off so it is actually a pretty sweet deal.  It would be nice to know I have good friends to come back to in September but I don't.  Those acquaintances in my life were meant to be nothing more than that.  When I leave my day job for good I am sure I will not see most of my co-workers ever again but the ones that left before me will be a part of my life.

Today's quote is, "There are those who enter your life and those who leave - know there is a reason for both."   Throughout our lives we meet so many different people but not everyone is there for the long haul.  They weren't meant to be.  As long as there are people you could say good morning to and smile at and have those pleasantries reciprocated then all is good in the world.  We all know who our true and real friends are and if they are not in our work place, so be it.

Perhaps these work acquaintances of mine were here for the purpose of making my day a better one.  Yes, that's right.  It could be as simple as that.  Think about the numerous people who have come and gone in your life.  Even the ones you didn't quite care for.  They were all part of that great plan to teach you, support you, guide you, smile at you, make you laugh, make you think, provoke you, make you question, make you cry, make you wonder, make you grateful and make you understanding of the nature of humanity.

Have a wonderful Friday everyone! ~Love, Amy

ENJOY WHAT IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR NOSE

Good morning everyone!  Happy Thursday.  I could have used more sleep today.  Last night I made a really good pasta dish and even though I was full I wanted more.   The last vacation I went on was wonderful but as the last day approached I began to wish I was starting over.

Does this sound like you too?  Something tastes yummy so we want to eat more even if we have to unbutton our pants.  Our trip was so amazing we never wanted it to end.  When you are eating that yummy dinner are you enjoying it or thinking how you will get a second helping when you finish.  When you are on your vacation are you savoring the moment or already thinking about the next one?

Today's quote is, "When all we want is more - we have lost the ability for gratitude and to appreciate what is front and center."  If I admit that's true for me will you admit it is true for you too?  Whenever I would go on vacation, well, let's stop right there.  Whenever I was on a plane I started thinking about where I should go next.  Isn't that crazy?!  Vacations are something that I cherish especially family vacations so I instead of enjoying the plane ride I would begin to plan the next one.

Being in the moment is a challenge for me as much as everyone else.  Meditation has helped not only my emotional state but it has given me the power to be in the present moment most of the time.  It has also given me the ability to be grateful for what I do have.

The next time you are eating a lovely meal be grateful that you had a kitchen to prepare it in.  Whether you vacation in a Caribbean Island or a tent in the country, be grateful that you had the time to do it.  We all have so much more than we realize.  Begin to want less, appreciate what you have and give thanks that you are healthy and here to enjoy it all!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

EMOTIONS MAKE US HUMAN

Good morning everyone.  Happy Wednesday.  You may have woken up tired and grumpy but felt much better after that first sip of Joe.  It could be that you woke up stressed and nervous about something.  It is also  possible that you woke up really happy because you have something to look forward to like lunch with a friend, getting your hair done, working out with your favorite instructor or....a million different things.  We could have a broad scope of emotions from the time we get out of bed until we close the door behind us.

This is not good or bad.  It just is.  Today's quote is, "To be human is to feel the range of every emotion there is - allow them - feel them and release them."  Feeling different emotions is not the same as holding onto them.  It is never healthy to hold onto anger but it is natural and human to feel it.  We get angry.  We experience sadness.  We get overwhelmed, anxious and stressed out of our minds too.  Those might not the most productive or enjoyable of emotions but from time to time they find us.

I don't need to tell you to recognize them.  We all know exactly what they look and feel like!  I am telling you to allow them in if necessary.  Let them in with open arms but don't invite them to stay.  We have been told by Buddhist philosophers that we need to let go of the ego and in doing that to also be an observer of emotions.

While I do agree with this philosophy I also understand that human beings cannot always watch from the sidelines.  Human beings have feelings.  We feel shame, hurt, frustration, misery but also joy, happiness, elation and peace.  When any one of these emotions comes to call, open the door wide enough to let them in but let them know when they have overstayed their welcome!

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

HOLDING HANDS WITH FAITH

Good morning everyone!  Happy Tuesday.  When was the last time you wanted something so badly you prayed?  You might be thinking, what is she talking about! I don't pray.  Well, yes you do because it counts whether you look up the sky or down at your feet and say to yourself, "I really hope....."  That my friends is praying, and we ALL do it!

The problem with prayer of that sort is that it is desperation.  Not to say that prayer whenever you choose to use it is not good or doesn't work but it shouldn't be the resort of desperate measures.  Prayer can be used as a thank you for what you have, not just a plea to make things right.

Sometimes you don't even need prayer.  What is really needed is faith.  Today's quote is, "Allow for God's divine intervention and let faith take hold."   If prayer is something you are not accustomed to that's perfectly alright but take heed to what is said in my quote.  Have faith and allow for what is meant to be to come to fruition.  I understand that can be hard especially after experiencing failure upon failure.

Whether failure has occurred through circumstance or repeated mistakes, have faith that through these mistakes you learned the lesson of intent.  Mistakes indeed are our teachers.  Do not look upon them with disdain.  Have faith that there is a good and kind God who will intervene for the best possible outcome for us all.  Faith and hope are the intangible rings we must grasp with the knowledge that in the end what is ours will be and what is meant will also be.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

WORRYING IS WASTED ENERGY AND A WASTE OF TIME

Good morning everyone!  Happy Monday!  Will the week ahead be a busy one for you?  Did you wake up with a lot on your mind?   Some weeks are busier than others just like there are days we need to pack in a week's worth of errands.  In the end everything gets done but we often seem to worry that it won't.  You know what gets accomplished by worrying aside from high blood pressure and a nervous stomach?  Nothing.

Pre meditation I was a big time worrier about everything.  It was my nature and something that has been a part of me since I was a little girl.  It is probably the reason I have two distinguishable creases between my eyes.  If only I began meditation a lot earlier!  I will tell you what I do know about worrying.  It is a complete waste of time.  We all have things to do and eventually they get done so why do we need to make ourselves crazy in the process when we could put our energies to much better use.

Today's quote is, "Take the energy you use for worrying and focus on manifesting - for that is a much better use of your time."  Don't you agree?  Of course you do!  No one wants to worry or waste precious time and energy doing so.  It becomes what we are used to and that in turn becomes our way of life.  Yuck!  Am I describing you?  If I am then you need to work on changing that part of yourself.

If in the end everything gets done then why do we worry?  If in the end everything works out then why do we worry?  It is because we allow old patterns to remain.  Let go of those old patterns and change that worry into faith.  Have faith that everything will get done in the time it is meant to and will work out exactly as it is meant to.  It will take work if worrying has been a way of life for you but it is never too late to change.  Ever!

When you feel that worry begin to take hold, stop for a moment, take a deep breath, release it and with a full and open heart embrace faith!

Have a wonderful Monday everyone! ~Love, Amy
