Good morning everyone!  Happy Thursday.  I love a variety of music.  Everyone from Frank Sinatra to Ella Fitzgerald to UB40 to Bossa Nova and Beck.  I also happen to be a huge fan of alternative or Indie music.  Suddenly there are all these groups creating fabulous sounds playing for an audience of thousands.  Just one amazing song and they are on the radio and filling up concert halls.  Lucky them!

That's the usual common collective thought.  A brand new band who comes up with one song and seemingly overnight they are making millions!  The truth is that band is not a new band.  The truth is that "brand new band" has been around for years before receiving recognition.  Elbow, an English band and one of my favorites has been together since 1990.  Arcade Fire, a Canadian group was formed in 2003.  Tame Impala, a hot "new" Australian band met and formed in 2010.

Overnight success?  Hardly.  Today's quote is, "Invisible behind that phenomenal success and overnight sensation lies will, determination and struggle."  If ever man created a misleading term it was the phrase, "overnight success."  It is one that has been romanticized in novels and movies from fiction to biographies.  We take a person, a business or a company and see their success without understanding what it took to get there.

To accomplish anything takes hard work, focus, determination, drive and the knowledge that failure might be part of the equation.  What preceded Madison Square Garden for any of the above mentioned bands was most likely a smelly, smokey, sleazy bar filled with a bunch of drunks who couldn't care less about what they were listening to.

Whatever it is you want to do or be or create, be prepared for the work that's ahead of you.  Be prepared for the failure, sweat, angst, disappointment and struggle you will encounter and when success comes, and it will... be prepared for the accolades, recognition and emotional income it will provide and you will deserve it all!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone.  Happy Tuesday.  Don't you love when you are thinking about someone and just that moment they text you or you run into them at some random place.  Or is it really random?  We call those events coincidences but I like to think of them mini gifts.  There must have been a reason why someone was on your mind.  Cosmically they felt the need to connect with you and so ensued a coincidence.

Today's quote is, "Coincidences are the seeds planted by the Universe to help you grow - change and even alter the course of your life."  Deep for sure but oh so true.  I'm a big believer in meant to be.  Shocker right?  Here's another story from my life.  Let me tell you how my husband and I found our house, the one and only home I have ever lived in with my family.

Years before I even met my husband I had a friend (still do) living in suburbia who I had gone to see.  I had never been there before but I found the area so comfortable and nurturing.  Visiting from the city where I was surrounded by noise and tall buildings, it was refreshing to come upon trees and endless sky.  I remember how quiet it was when I woke up the next morning.  I remember thinking to myself, "I want to live here one day."

That was it.  I said those words, meant those words, never repeated those words but the Universe has very large ears.  Years passed and I came up to this same suburb, this time with my husband and baby to see my friend's (same friend) son dressed up for a Halloween parade.  I had also started to think that it might be a good time to start looking for a house since we were ready to leave the Big Apple for good.

The real estate office we went to advertised a house on a pretty street.  A house that I was advised not to even look at.  Long story short, we ended up buying a house on the same pretty street I wanted to be, in the town where I visualized I would be living in so many years before.  Now was all that a coincidence?  Skeptics will say of course.  Those in the know will mischievously smile at the skeptics because they know the Universe hears all.  What you thought was a coincidence was the end result of that seed you planted so long ago!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday.  From time to time we all either misplace things or lose them altogether.  Keys are the first thing that comes to mind but I'm still looking for those sunglasses I misplaced about 15 years ago along with the 2 earrings and ankle sock.  What a wonderful surprise it would be if I found them but I don't think that will happen.

How long do you continue to search for things you know you'll never find.  You hear of found items in the least likely of places but that doesn't happen often.  I have a better chance of finding my earring if I continue looking in my closet rather than in the kitchen because that just makes no sense!

To find what you lost you need to look in the most likely of places so at least you have a shot!  Today's quote is, "Fish cannot be found in a barren sea - when searching for answers look first within yourself where your intuition holds a wealth of knowledge."   My friends, we know so much more than we let on.

That feeling you get when you walk into a room or meet someone for the first time is either positive or negative and based on nothing more than our intuition.  Do we want to stay in this room or leave?  Did we meet a new friend or not.  Intuitively we know things unspoken because we go with what we feel - that wealth of knowledge within us, the kind we never had to study for!

Never disregard that inner feeling because its usually spot on.  Its also referred to you as a gut feeling.  When that gut is screaming its not always from hunger.  Respect your feelings and respect the silent voice in your third eye center.  When glittering indigo sparkles, it is time to pay attention!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone!  Happy Tuesday.  Have you ever driven into a blinding sunset when the sun was so bright your'e driving and squinting hoping not to hit the car in front of you?  Its a very dangerous time of day.  Accidents are both likely and frequent as you are literally blinded by the light.

Jealousy and envy have the same effect as a blinding sun where you cannot see anything in front of you yet you continue driving straight into that searing light.  Jealousy and envy cloud our vision so our focus is not on gratitude but what "they" have.  You know who "they" are right?  The ones who incessantly post about things.  Things being stuff because honestly that's all it is.  Stuff!  Yet so many of us want their stuff so badly we disregard what's real in our lives.

Today's quote is, "Jealousy and envy block your ability to see all that is good and wonderful in your own life."  Is this a new topic?  Hell no!  Is this an important topic?  Hell yes!  Sometimes I wonder if jealousy and envy would take center stage in our lives if it weren't for Facebook and all the fabulous vacations, houses, and well....stuff that's posted.

Who cares!  Seriously!  Who cares?  Why care so much about stuff.  Don't we all have our own?  Life is not just about stuff.  It is about the moments we have with the people we love.  It's about the trip to the mall with your daughter who has transitioned to friend.  It's about the conversations with your son who finally shares his secrets with you.  The unspoken words you share with your spouse, the one who knows you like a well read book.

You can always buy more stuff if you want to.  Another sweater, another pair of shoes, a fancier car and on and on but the real stuff - the good stuff is not stuff at all.  I don't know about you but I have all the clothes I could possibly cram into my closet but I always have room for conversation, laughter and love because that my friends is the real stuff of life.  The stuff that makes it all worthwhile!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone.  Happy Thursday.  Remember when you were a little kid and you were made to apologize for something you did and then the other person, no matter what would say, "that's ok," even if their arm hurt from where you punched them, their art work was torn to shreds and you ate the last piece of chocolate cake.  The one that they were saving for later.

Simultaneously we learned to atone and forgive and at no point did we think we were giving in.  It was something that wouldn't even occur to us.  We were being taught that when you do something naughty like eating the LAST PIECE OF CAKE you apologized and no matter how badly you wanted that dessert, you found it in your heart (with some prodding) to forgive.

Today's quote is, "At no point is forgiveness weakness."  To forgive shows strength.  To forgive shows understanding even when you don't understand.  A grudge holds you hostage - forgiveness releases you from the prison of a grudge and opens your heart to release the pain.

That anger that you hold so close sends signals to rewire our brains and bodies making them more susceptible to illness and disease.  We are all well aware of what stress does to our bodies.  Anger is even worse.  There are actions that are unfathomable yet for yourself and your own physical and mental well being, forgiveness is necessary.

Never think you are caving in and crumbling when you say "I forgive you," for those three words are the strongest and most powerful ones you can ever recite.

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone!  Happy Tuesday to you.  How many of you out there are working at the same job for at least ten years?  Wait.  I have a better question.  How many of you are at the same place of employment since graduating from college.  And here's another question.  How many of you are actually working in a field that relates to your college major?  Since you can't answer me directly, (well you can by responding to this blog!) let me tell you my personal history.

I graduated college as a dance major.  Yep, I did.  Knowing that I wasn't going to be a professional dancer but rather an unemployed artist, I immediately went to graduate school and majored in another unemployable  Or was it really unemployable?

After a series of uneventful jobs from kitchen prep at a catering company to secretary at CBS when Mariah Carey was married to Tommy Mottola, (OMG!! I saw her!!!), I wanted something more fulfilling.  I felt an urge to make a difference while incorporating my creative side.  Lo and behold I came up with teaching!  I went back to school, got my teaching certification and jumped in with both feet.

Without boring you with the details of my entire work history I will tell you that what I thought was a useless major turned out to be exactly what helped me as a teacher.  My audience was a group of 5 and 6 year olds who needed entertainment as well as instruction. In a classroom I was able to do both.  My ability to connect with people of all ages has continued to serve me up until this very moment.

As the saying goes, this isn't my first rodeo!  I have been a teacher and healer in many lives and my vocation continues in this one.  Today's quote is, "Reverberating through the Universe are your secrets and your hopes coming back as karmic lessons and innermost desires."  While you may be unclear and unsure of your direction the Universe knows what is in your heart.

Healing was in my heart~ not written on my college diploma.  There were lessons I needed to study and learn before I could serve others.  The Universe knew that for me as well as it does for you.  Your dreams are out there and you will receive them when you are ready!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone!  Happy Thursday.  Whatever path you are on in your life is exactly the one meant for you.  In life there is no one size fits all.  Our interests differ, life lessons are individually designed and the pace at which we learn and move is unique to each one of us.

What is true is that we are all on a path.  What we need is the strength, faith and trust to follow the direction we are given.  Today's quote is, "Let God take over and lead you on your path."  Choose to see God as the Universe, a higher being or a beam of light.  It doesn't matter.  The only thing that matters is knowing there is a force, a positive force in your life guiding you and nudging you on your way.

Can you deviate from the path?  Of course.  In fact most of us do and that's because we are busy living and learning.  When we take what we have learned and acknowledge that invisible push we get right back on that road in the proper direction.

The most pessimistic of us all can remain as such but take a look around.  Look at a sunrise or a sunset, those orange and red colors that paint the sky. Hear the way the waves sound as they crash on the shore.  Watch a bumblebee sucking nectar from a flower and never tiring out!  After you've witnessed those wonders of nature, let me know if you still think nothing exists that is greater than us all.

My only request is that you put your faith and trust in that power that is higher than you and to know that that power will never let you down.  Take your twists, take your turns, but know in the end you will get there.

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone.  Happy Tuesday.  Remember the game, Telephone?  It used to be played at parties where kids would sit in a circle and whisper something in someone's ear, then the next person would whisper what they heard in someone else's ear and so on and so on until getting back to the first person with what was supposed to be the original message.  Somehow that message would get completely mangled in the process leaving everyone in a fit of laughter.

You know when its not so funny?  When we make assumptions about what we've heard and then relay it to other people.  That is an explosion waiting to happen.  Today's quote is, "Assumptions made on hearsay ignite dangerous fires."  There are many types of people but one quickly comes to mind when reading this quote.  That type would be the "know it all."  Only someone who knows everything would be brave enough to make assumptions based on anything and everything they hear.

To some degree we all do this.  Name a topic and we can make an assumption about it.  Fat person?  Stupid and lazy.  Rich person?  Living on easy street.  Physically stunning?  Never alone on a Saturday night.  Smiling person?  Must be great to be happy all the time.  What we don't know is never on the surface but underneath.

That overweight person may be battling an illness.  The seemingly wealthy well dressed man or woman's only friend may be the salesman in a department store.  I read an article about men and women models who did indeed sit home many Saturday nights.  Why?  People were afraid to approach them.  And that happy, smiley person you see?  Perhaps a manic high.

The truth is we never know what lies behind a smile, a frown or extra pounds.  Assuming we do is wrong.  Not only is it wrong but assumptions we make and spread around could have devastating consequences.  Always always think before coming to conclusions of any sort.  Put yourself in the place of another.  We all feel pain and sadness but we can also spread joy and love and I think it is safe to say, we can all assume that's exactly what everyone needs!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone.  Happy Thursday.  I know its only March but stores have already begun their winter clothing sales to make room for all the pretty spring wear.  Brighter colored clothing has been stacked on shelves, hanging on hangers and drawing us in as we tire of our black winter wear.

How great does it feel when wintry dark colors are replaced by pretty pastels and bright shades of the rainbow.  Nothing like some new threads to lift our spirits but no matter how beautiful that new cotton sweater is or how great those new jeans fit, that's not what makes you beautiful.

Today's quote is, "The most beautiful side of you is inside - it is the kindness in your heart."  OMG  could I be any sappier?  Before you start rolling your eyes think about it.  Anyone can wear beautiful clothing and look great but when accompanied by resting bitch face that Chanel couture is completely overlooked.  Facial expressions are an immediate attention grabber.  If we look mean and miserable it doesn't matter what designer duds are on our backs.

A kind and compassionate heart may not show but is felt by those around you.  That's what truly makes you beautiful.  I like beautiful clothes and shoes and shoes and more shoes but beautiful is not worn or seen outside, it is inside deep within our hearts where kindness, compassion and love exist.

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone.  Happy Tuesday.  It is Tuesday right?  Of course it is.  The only people who lose track of the days are those who no longer have to report anywhere.  Those are the people who argue what day it is and never seem to get it right.  Monday?  No way.  It's Tuesday, etc. Not really a big deal or call for a major argument.

These days there is a lot more to argue about than if it is Tuesday or Wednesday.  Facebook has allowed all of us to share our expertise on just about every topic including a stranger's life.  Granted there are people who seek advice and we are more than eager to give it.  Good or bad its out there.

When you ask for advice be prepared to be irritated.  Be prepared to hear all kinds of wonderful and ridiculous things you should do to make your children eat more vegetables, get your dog to stop barking, remove gum from your hair and just about anything you can think of.  Opinions are rampant from the inane to the serious.  Politics is a hot topic and many have no fear in not only expressing their views but dissing the attitudes of another's point of view.

We can't all agree on everything but we must be civil and polite when we see or hear something we don't like.  Today's quote is, "And if I disagree with you I will still listen with a compassionate heart and an open mind and sincere respect."   Facebook has become a place where rudeness and nastiness is acceptable.  Disagreements have become heated and mean.

Our belief system stems from so many varied places therefore we arrive at conclusions based on our experiences.  Keep that in mind the next time you read a post that makes your blood boil.  All you can do is try your best to understand that it may come from a place completely foreign to you.  My quote today may have ruffled some feathers and that's perfectly OK.  I know it has been read with an open mind and a compassionate heart.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone.  Happy Thursday.  Long walks are something I adore.  Even when I didn't have Mia by my side, I used to take long walks no matter what the weather brought.  OK, not if it brought rain!  During these walks my mind would jump from topic to topic or freeze while I admired a tree, a cloud or a bird in the sky.

These walks were and still are an important part of my day.  I use them to clear my head and make future plans like what to cook for dinner and where I see myself a month from now.  Sometimes I reminisce and review past events that could have been done differently but never do I berate myself for past mistakes. You can't have a smash hit on Broadway without lots of rehearsals!

Today's quote is, "The walk to your destiny begins with challenges obstacles failures successes and ultimately celebrations when your goals have been reached and realized."  We all know about the overnight success right?  Wrong.  Such a thing does not exist.

A client of mine, a graphic designer whose job it is to come up with logos for various products shared a very poignant story.  He was given a design job and when the work was completed his client didn't want to pay the amount agreed upon because it only took ten minutes to draw. His very appropriate response was to say,  "Do you know how many years of schooling and practice went into that ten minute design?"

Do you know how many potatoes a Michelin chef has peeled before getting that five star rating?  Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was rejected by so many publishers it made the Guinness Book of World Records.  One hundred and twenty one publishing houses turned it down before it went on to become a best seller selling five million copies.

Sore fingers didn't stop Daniel Boulud from cooking nor did a wounded ego stop Robert M. Pirsig from writing.  That overnight success is a long way in the making for anyone and everyone.  You may feel discouraged and disheartened but never give up.  Take comfort to know that we all begin with challenges, with obstacles, with failures and mistakes but with tenacity, drive and enthusiasm those successes can and will be yours.  I know it isn't always easy but when those goals are reached, grab a couple of glasses and toast to your accomplishments!

Good morning everyone.  Happy Tuesday.  What are your feelings on the story of creation?  The original story that says God created man and woman and somehow, of course, the woman really screwed up and made life miserable ever after.  Could it be the original #metoo?

I prefer to think that we were created in a similar fashion.  You know. Equal!  I mean, do you think I feel pain any less than you?  Do you think my heart was never broken?  We all have upsets and setbacks, celebrations and triumphs.  Certainly we are equal in the experiences we share as human beings.

Today's quote is, "The one who created me created you with a heart for love and compassion and a mind for contemplation to distinguish right from wrong and good from evil."  It's kind of crazy to think there are Ted Bundys in the world but that's not the norm.  I would like to think that most of us have big, compassionate hearts.  Case in point: all the puppy videos on Facebook!

While angel wings are not shooting out of our backs and judgmental utterances come out of our mouths from time to time, it doesn't mean that we are not good or kind.  We have the ability to stop ourselves from certain thoughts once we see beyond an appearance and even feel bad for those thoughts.  That's where the part about our good heart comes in.

Do we know right from wrong and good from evil?  Yes we do.  Is there evil out there?  Yes Ted.  There is evil out there but the majority of us are compassionate and caring.   Show compassion to friends and strangers.  One never knows what goes on in someone's life but rest assured that we share so much more than what we don't.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday!  What will today bring?  Sometimes we know and sometimes we have absolutely no clue.  The latter is more fun.  It leaves you open to surprises!  Out of curiosity, which one of you said, "uh oh" in your head?  Who out there thought immediately that surprise is synonymous with disaster?  If I said more of you went to the dark place rather than the light, I would probably be right.  Too many of us are hard wired to feel the thorn instead of smelling the rose.

We have so much power yet we don't believe in our abilities.  We have so much strength but feel we are weak.  Perhaps we were raised to think we weren't good enough or maybe just maybe we did this to ourselves.  If you are the source of  your inadequacy, stop it right now!

Today's quote is, "Sweep away thoughts of insecurity and doubt for only a clear mind can be open to endless possibilities."  Possibilities for anything cannot exist in a clouded mind.  Overpowered by fear and doubt, we can see nothing to the right, to the left, in back or in front of us.  Use you inner strength and power to jump over those waves of negativity.  Repeat a mantra to yourself.  Do whatever it takes until you convince yourself that you are worthy to receive.

Insecurity and doubt are obstacles we place in our own mind but we are also the ones who have the power to remove them.  Waste no time!  Opportunity awaits!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! Love, Amy

Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday.  Do you daydream?  I often find my mind drifting at certain times in my day.  Sometimes my thoughts are random and go from "did I put the wash in the dryer," to "I need to buy yeast." Sometimes my mind completely leaves and I find myself visualizing  a country road or the shore of a beach.  Definitely two of my favorite places. It won't be long before my visualizations become a reality, (excluding the laundry and food shopping) and that's because I have been doing everything I can to make it happen.

Nothing happens simply because you want it to.  You have to make it happen.  In your mind's eye, envision a rainbow and think about what you would like to find at the other end AND how you are going to get there.  You need a plan and you need to plot each movement one by one OR just admire those beautiful colors, two very different approaches leading to change or stagnation.

Today's quote is, "Everything you do is a step to the next place - everything you don't do is also a step."  True that! Remember that it takes time to get to where you want to be.  Once upon a time we found our way to the working world and it wasn't exactly what we wanted to do but we did it anyway.  Then we found ourselves somewhere that was a bit more challenging and fulfilling but we weren't quite there yet.  Sometimes we refused to acknowledge that there was even anything remotely interesting out there.  Not a step in the wrong direction, but a decision we made.

Get the picture.  We cannot possibly get to step 10 without going through 1-9 but somewhere around step 5 you may need to take your time and regroup.  Whatever you do, whatever approach you take know that it is all part of the process!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone.  Happy Thursday to you.  What drives you?  What moves you?  What is the motivating force that gets you out of bed in the morning?  Is it money?  Yes, I said money.  Are you getting up because you have a job to go to?  One that provides you with the funds you need to live in your home and have dinner every night.  Are you getting up because there are people in your life who depend on you?  Do you throw the covers off and jump out of bed because you are so excited to see what the new day brings?

There are many things that drive us, move us and motivate us but the one thing that drives us all is love.  Yep.  Love.  Love is our driving force.  Today's quote is, "It is from love that we are guided."  The simplicity of this quote is what is so powerful.  Think about it for a moment.  It is from love that we are guided.  Of course it is.  A job you have may be unfulfilling but does fill your bank account so there is a roof above you and a plate of pasta for a meal.  You may not love the job, but you love a warm house and a hot meal.

Who wants to jump out of bed at 4 a.m. but if your child is crying or a loved one is calling, that's what you do!  You may love your sleep but love for your children trumps the need for zzzz's.  I bet you thought this was going to be about doing what you love!  Landing that dream job and living life on your terms but everything so far has been on your terms.  The job you chose, the home you live in and the children you have.

Jobs change, children grow up and our lives take a different turn and still, love will always guide you. At some point you will find a different direction based on love from where you choose to live and how you spend your time.   Love what you are doing this very moment because moments do not return.  Cooking again?  Maybe a tiring chore but you are doing it for the ones you love and who love you even more!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone.  Happy Tuesday.  Positive affirmations are wonderful.  Their purpose is so that we remain...well, positive!  When you look at the mirror do you greet yourself with, "good morning gorgeous," or do you look at your face examining it with the precision of a forensic scientist noticing your perceived imperfections.

If that's how you start your day, looking at what's wrong and thinking of the difficulties that will greet you when walk outside your front door, where do you expect it to go from there?  Today's quote is, "Rapid descent occurs through betrayal of the mind - a mind which showers you with negativity and defeat."  Why why why do we do that to ourselves?  Habit!  We are in the habit on focusing on what is negative rather than what is positive.

We were all taught not to be conceited and not to boast about ourselves and to be humble.  There is nothing wrong with celebrating something great about yourself.  Life is about balance and the way we treat ourselves needs balance as well.

No, we will not be an expert in everything and yes, there is only one winner,  but just because you didn't get a trophy doesn't mean you are a loser.  Next time you feel that wave of negativity swimming through your veins, think of that one thing that makes you the unique being that you are.  Next time you are in the shower let those negative thoughts go down the drain and shower yourself with love, the love you deserve!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday to you.  If were able to share the holidays with both your parents then you are among the lucky ones.  I am blessed to have both my mom and dad on this earth.  My dad is an incredible human being.  I often refer to him as the Original Buddha.  He is the most mellow person I know.  He never worries about anything and sees the beauty in all.  I remember when my son was about two years old and wanted to kill a spider.  My dad looked at him and said, "don't do that, we are all God's creatures."  He then picked up the spider, tossed it outside and began a wonderful tradition in our home.

I never ever remember my father gossiping about anyone either.  It used to drive my mom crazy.  She is the complete opposite and isn't beneath sending out a jab or two to someone she is not fond of.  My father lacks the judgement gene.  The gene that allows us to know EXACTLY what someone else is like just by looking at them.

You know how genetics works right?  The dominant one wins out.  In my case I received the gene from my mom and have not been beyond a comment or two myself.  No one is perfect, right?  Here's the best part.  Sometimes the judgement I've made is completely wrong.

Here's another Amy story.  I went to a spa for a facial and while I was waiting to be called a woman walked past me.   According to my preconceived notion, she didn't look like what an esthetician should look like.  I was hoping she would keep walking but my appointment was with her.  Lucky me!    She gave me the best facial I had ever had.  Not only was she an excellent esthetician but she infused Reiki and sound healing into her facial.  Holy wow!

Today's quote is, "The best part of being judgmental is finding out you were wrong."   It really is.  It is the ultimate "Ah ha" moment.  We all talk the talk but do we really walk the walk?  Don't judge, we say.  Be kind, we say but do we act out those words?  We can judge anything and everything but in the process, we could be missing out.  Reserve judgement until you've seen it, tasted it, experienced it and done it. As the line from a poem by Mary T. Lathrap says, Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone.  Happy Tuesday.  My hope is that everyone has a good day but there is a possibility that someone reading this has an important meeting and is feeling stressed while someone else is home sick, someone else is on vacation and someone else just got a promotion.

The same day for different people will bring different challenges creating varied emotions.  The famous illusion of the young woman, old woman known as My Wife and My Mother lets us see two very distinct profiles.  There is no wrong or right, it is merely our perception.  A eight ounce glass with four ounces of liquid is either half full or half empty depending on how you see it.

Today's quote is, "Yours is not the only perspective - it is but one."  Are you willing to take off your blinders?  Are you willing to see a way other than yours?  A whole world can open up once you allow yourself to see it.  Understanding and compassion is another benefit of being open to a way other than your own.

The passion we feel for our own opinions is strong and dare I say sometimes stubborn.  We have so much to gain when we listen to a voice other than our own and view the world through another's eyes.  Living alone on a beautiful island may be peaceful but having a partner to play with in the sand is a lot more fun!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday.  Are you all back to your pre-holiday weight?  Its funny how we watch everything that goes into our mouths before the holidays begin so we could eat as much as we want during them only to go back to step one a few weeks later.  What an odd ritual.  Why is food perceived as the enemy?  Why do we feel that we can't enjoy something delicious all the time?

Intentional deprivation can inadvertently lead to excess as we reach for the apple but really want that chocolate chip cookie. Certainly nutritional balance is important.  Balance is important in all aspects of life.  If we gave it some real thought, why is it that we deprive ourselves of anything.  I think that someone along our path told us we weren't deserving and we were dumb enough to believe them.

Today's quote is, "To the one who told you you deserve less - let them know they were sorely mistaken."  To the ones who said you are reaching too high.   To the ones who said, "you can't wear that!" "you can't go there," "you shouldn't eat this," "don't even think about it."

To all of them I say, how high is too high?  Wear what makes you feel good!  Go where your heart desires.  Eat WHATEVER!  And don't just dream about it....DO IT!  Sometimes all it takes is that one naysayer whose words get stuck in your brain while you ignore the other 100 who said, "go for it."

Only you know what is real for you and what is out of reach.  Negativity from others come from many places.  Unless you are in someone's head you will never know how their furniture is arranged.  Listen to yourself.  Go with what feels right.  When you do, you will never be wrong!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone!  Happy Tuesday.  We humans go through a rush of emotions on any given day.  We experience joy and sadness.  Frustration and anger.  Misery and melancholy.  A smile is preferable to a scowl but sometimes the scowl wins out.   Like our emotions our facial expressions are temporary.  A grin can easily change to a frown and back again to a grin.

When you experience this wide range of feeling and emotion is it internal or are you the whirling dervish type that needs to let everyone in on your mood?  Corny as it sounds, a smile spreads sunshine. It creates a desire for others to want to be around you and share in your joy but when you see someone walking with folded arms and a furrowed brow we tend to move out of the way.

Today's quote is, "Carry yourself with dignity intensity and grace not only when the storm approaches but when the waves recede."  We can't be happy all the time.  We can't be miserable all the time either, although I'm sure we all know people who are.  Obstacles will find us. It is a part of life.  That smooth silky road will have an occasional bump or two.  How will you handle that flat tire?

Obstacles like our moods are also temporary.  When they come knocking on your door, take a deep breath, survey the situation in your mind and walk through them with grace and dignity.  Hard times don't last forever and when you have forged through them you can continue walking with dignity and grace and that beautiful smile on your beautiful face!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday.  I don't know who said getting up in the dark is for the birds.  I'm quite sure I haven't heard nary a chirp since early October nor have I seen one at 6:30 in the morning when I walk Mia.  Getting out of bed in the dark is no fun either.  There are numerous things I can stub my toe on forcing me to contort my face like The Silent Scream in the painting by Edvard Munch.

While it is preferable to turn the lights on I don't want to wake up my husband or Mia who is usually on our bed.  Can you imagine the incredible moment when Thomas Edison turned on his light for the very first time?  The light bulb was and remains to this day one of the most incredible inventions ever.

The light bulb enabled us to come out of the dark and into the light!  Can you imagine dropping something on the floor?  Hard enough to find something in the light let alone the dark.  Light shines so that we may find what we dropped but also to help us find out way.

Today's quote is, "Turn on the light to see all that lies before you."  A raccoon can make its way in the dark but we don't share their nocturnal gift of seeing in blackness.  The light I am speaking of is both real and metaphorical.  Light from a bulb will illuminate your path while light from your mind will illuminate your creative side and take you down a road you may never have tried before.

Let that light ignite those creative visions and shine brightly so you may be witness to the wonders before your eyes, before all that lies before you!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone.  Happy Tuesday.  I hope you're not already getting the winter doldrums.  It is way too soon.  In fact you should still be on that holiday buzz.  Just a few weeks ago I was sitting on a beautiful warm beach with my toes in the sand.  I can easily close my eyes and go right back there.  Even if you were home, wherever home is, you can still close your eyes and be with family and friends, savor that delicious dessert and relax in your favorite chair.  We have a lot of winter left, embrace it in whatever way works for you.

The cold, the wind, the snow and the dark will be our companions for the next few months but so will our thoughts.  Winter is a time for deep thinking, reflecting, planning and dreaming.  As we try to recall the scent of a summer day there is no time like the present to revisit those dreams we may have pushed aside.

Today's quote is, "Do you accept the fact that the stars are out of reach or do you keep reaching."  It is said that Spring is the time for rejuvenation and growth.  While I wholeheartedly agree, it is now during these cold winter months we can begin to plant the seeds in our minds for what we want and not focus on what isn't there.

Remember when you were a child and the stars looked so close you thought you could grab one right out of the sky?  Remember how you tried and tried and never gave up?  That child is still inside you just waiting for the right moment to snatch one and hold it in your hands.  Inhale deeply and on your exhale release the word impossible from your mind.

Don't let the dark days of winter darken your spirits, your desires or your will.  Keep reaching for those stars.  You might not reach it today but there is always tomorrow!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone!  Happy Thursday.  I am terrible with directions.  I used to think I was the only person who got lost but I discovered I was not alone.  When the GPS came out I echoed everyone's sentiments.  "They made that just for me!"  Anyone out there remember the days of those enormous atlases that lay on the floor by the back seat?  Those giant maps of the United States that dads used to use to find the way to Maine or Pennsylvania or New Hampshire or wherever that summer destination was.

No one has them anymore.  Everyone has a GPS on their phones or in their cars making maps obsolete.  I'm sure that somewhere there is a huge pile of atlases with numerous pages bent at the edges and water stains on the covers.  Truly there is no reason to get lost and if you do "recalculating" will be heard in a nano second!  If we do get lost it is because our minds are elsewhere.  While you are imagining plates of shrimp or pasta for dinner there is a possibility of making a right turn instead of a left.  A simple mistake and easy to fix.  If you do that everyday you may be hungrier than you thought or might just not want to go to your destination.

Little mistakes that don't impact us much are easy to ignore. The big ones are the ones we need to pay attention to so we don't repeat them.  But repeat them we do and more times than we would like to admit.  At one point are you consciously or subconsciously recreating a disaster?

Today's quote is, "Mistake followed by mistake followed by mistake is no longer a mistake but a choice."  For years I worked as an office temp hoping that one of the companies would hire me permanently.  It took several office chairs for me to sit in before realizing that an office is an office no matter how beautiful it might be.   My mistake was thinking that the next company would be different but when that light bulb finally got brighter I recognized that and changed careers.

Repetitive behaviors and actions producing the same crummy outcome need recognition and acknowledgement until that light bulb goes off .  No one wants unhappiness and misery to blanket their lives.  Mistakes happen but when they happen again and again you have made a choice to live unhappily ever after.  Recognition plus acknowledgement minus repetition equals happiness!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

Good morning everyone!  Happy Tuesday and a Happy New Year to you as well.  Its good to be back. I hope you welcomed in the New Year exactly as you wanted to and didn't think about all the things you were going to do the very next day, like become vegan, give up chocolate, and spend three hours at the gym from Monday to Sunday.  Way to dampen an evening.

I'm not partial to the word "resolution."  You know, those things we say we are going to do and then  abandon after a week if not less.  What I prefer is to hear how you are going to modify something about yourself and how your approach will change.

In doing this we resolve to be kinder to ourselves.  The best way to do that is to let someone come to your aid.  Today's quote is, "Accept help - it is there to put you back on your path."  This is not something that should be looked upon as a weakness.  It is actually a strength and I KNOW you have heard that before.  It takes a lot to recognize and acknowledge your shortcomings.  It takes even more strength to seek out the ones who can help.

Too proud?  Aren't we all?  What purpose does it serve other than keeping us stuck and not able to move forward.  Why do you want to do that?  Once again I will offer my lack of technological acumen as an example.  If I had never sought out help I probably still wouldn't know how to text.  Yes my friends.  I am that bad.

The last paragraph of my blog where I tell everyone to visit my website would not exist because there would be no website.  There would be no book, no blog, no quotes, NOTHING.  Accepting the help I needed opened up a whole new world for me.

If you are the stubborn type think long and hard as to where that is getting you.  Be open and accepting of any help that is offered.  It is there so you can progress, move forward and be back on that track to success!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy
