LOVING YOUR QUIRKS

Good morning everyone.  Happy Tuesday!  I don't know about you but when I was born I was undeniably perfect.  Then things changed.  My flawlessly aligned baby teeth fell out and in their place came new slightly crooked ones and my silky smooth skin developed a number 11 seemingly tattooed in between my eyes.  One of my best friends from high school was gorgeous and still is even though her two front teeth overlap.  Interestingly that recognizable feature attributes to her beauty.

What is perfection?  Straight teeth?  Smooth skin? A certain weight and height?  Tell that to plus size model Ashley Graham.  The things we might not like about ourselves are all part of who we are and not just our physical attributes but the way we view the world.  Today's quote is, "Be confident that the uniqueness of you may take time for you to notice - even when noticed by others you are the one who needs to believe."  Time to stop picking on yourself and criticizing your bumpy nose, crooked teeth and bald spot!  Time to appreciate the way certain music makes you cry or the way a sunset makes your heart race.

We are all unique in our own way and not just how we appear to others but the way we think and feel and observe the world.  Take for instance the photo below.  Some of you might notice the clouds while someone else will see the branches yet someone else will see the pink sky.  Being unique is not a burden but a blessing.  You my friends out there are a blessing upon this earth.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

FREEDOM FROM SUFFERING

Good morning everyone and happy Monday.  One of the things I do since I am up at a crazy early hour in the morning is yoga.  I've been practicing yoga Monday through Friday for several weeks in addition to a brief morning meditation.  I have found that not only am I calmer in times of stress I am also no longer consumed by worry.  Did I know this to be a benefit of meditation?  Absolutely but not of yoga which has now turned out to be a wonderful enhancement for my morning routine.

The Buddha has said that we are the cause of our own misery.  Today's quote is a nod to his belief.  "One day it will become evident that we are the cause of all our suffering and anguish."  What da ya know!  Turns out he's right!  We just need to be aware but that right there is the problem.  We aren't aware!  We don't realize that it is us.  We don't realize that we are the cause of our stress and anxiety.  I'm not going to tell you to take a deep breath and it will all go away.  That's not realistic.

If you are alive, you have stress.  If you are a breathing living human, you have a certain level of stress.  It is the way you handle that stress and what you do when it rises within you that will allow you to carry on.  Holding onto every little problem can cause the same amount of suffering as something big.  If water has spilled all over the floor, just wipe it up without sighing or cursing.  If your computer crashes that is a big problem but if you let your blood pressure rise because of it you now have two problems.

I understand that it is difficult to observe a situation before reacting but that is truly the way to end suffering and anguish over things that are easily fixable and those that take more work but you must try for the sake of your well being.

What is needed is an outlet and a way to beat that stress before it beats you.   My morning yoga and meditation are tools to help me cope with the daily stress of being alive.  If downward dog does not appeal to you then take five minutes every morning to meditate and if five minutes seem too long, begin with one.  You will be on your way to observing your day for what it is and leave suffering and anguish in the dust!

Have a wonderful Monday everyone! ~Love, Amy

DO YOUR BEST TODAY AND EVERY DAY

Good morning everyone and happy Friday at last!  As the week winds down do you get a bit sluggish with your responsibilities.  Sometimes after a long week, it is hard to be as focused as we were when it began however in accordance with the four agreements we must always do our best.  Hard as it might be, I think that doing our best shines the light on who we really are.

Today's quote is, "Do your best everyday, every waking moment so that each day you are closer to your true self."  To that I say, YES!  Forget how tired you are.  Forget that once again you are standing at the sink washing the dishes you washed yesterday and setting the same table and feeding the dog yet again!

If you gave your poor pooch rotten leftovers, trust me, you will pay as much as your fur baby.  No I have not done that but I would never and I'm sure you wouldn't either.  When people rely on you you have no choice but to do your best.  This is when you need to think of yourself just as much as someone else.  That's right.  You are relying on you so do your best whatever it is.

Whether you are cooking, cleaning, conversing, or simply being.  Be your best always from the minute you wake up until you close your eyes.  When you do, sleep will come over you like a giant, warm bear hug.

TAKE NOTHING TO HEART

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday.  Today's quote is a perfect segue from yesterday when the discussion was having the freedom to not to care what others think.  Today's is sort of the same but with a twist.  Here goes, "Not poisonous words nor words of kindness should be taken personally - listen to your heart and let it decide the truth."

Have you ever said something you regretted?  Visualize me raising my hand right now because I sure have said some things I wish I never did.  What about the compliment you gave to a friend about her new couch?  She loves it but you thought it was the ugliest thing you've ever seen yet you praised her taste as magnificent and visionary!

Mind you, your friend knows in advance that you would never let that thing in your house.  For all you Lucy fans out there, think of the episode where Lucy tells Lillian Applebee that her furniture looks like a nightmare you would have after eating too much Chinese food.  You need to know from where a compliment comes from as much as where a regrettable statement does.

When on the other end of either poison or kindness, know from where it comes and from who and please do not take it personally!  So hard, I know but if you know from who and where it comes, that alone should make it easier to understand.  You know best when you listen to both your mind and your heart but mostly from your heart.

The heart is of course the center of love.  Listen with a loving heart and then decide if you have truly received an insult or a praise.  Your heart will always have the right answer.

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone and I do mean it! ~Love, Amy

WHO CARES WHAT THEY THINK?

Good morning everyone and happy Wednesday.  No matter how tired I may be, I usually conjure up an outfit to wear to work and end up looking perfectly put together.  On the weekends not so much.  Weekends are busy with errands and other types of running around which translates to sweat pants and no make up.  Truth is I really don't care, especially if I am running in and out of stores and walking Mia.

Beyond not caring about your Sunday attire, what else do you give little regard to?  Are you cautious with your conversation or do you say whatever pops into your head?  Obviously there are times when discretion is needed but when it comes to matters dear to your heart and standing up for what you believe are you outspoken or shy?

Today's quote is, "What is freedom - when you stop caring what everyone thinks and value what you think."  Ahhh!  Tapping into turquoise blue, the color of the throat chakra so that you are able to speak your mind with courage, confidence and clarity and with understanding and calm, not anger and accusation.

We don't all share the same beliefs but you can present them in a way that is not offensive yet still gets your message across.  You cannot go through life pleasing everyone you meet and disregarding your own feelings because someone might not like you.  Do you like you?  Do you value your thoughts and feelings?  That is what matters most.

You can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time!

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

LIFE WILL ALWAYS FIND YOU

Good morning everyone!  Happy Tuesday to you.  Did you ever feel like just running away and leaving everything behind?  I know I have.  I'm wondering if I should share this with you but here goes.  I can remember when I had two one year olds and a three year old.  I was overwhelmed and eusted having barely a moment to myself.  Yes I had a husband but while he was at his day job, there I was at mine.  Outnumbered by little people.  I was fortunate that my parents would come weekly so that I could do fun things like food shop and run other errands.

Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday  - Did you ever feel like running away and leaving everything behind?  I know I have.  I'm wondering if I should share this with you but here goes.  I can remember when I had two one year olds and a three year old.  I was overwhelmed and stressed having barely a moment to myself.  Yes I had a husband but while he was at his day job, thereI was at mine.  Outnumbered by little people.  I was fortunate that my parents would come weekly so that I could do fun things like food shop and run other errands.
I distinctly remember one particular day driving to a bagel store 30 minutes away and thinking, "maybe I should just keep going."  Was it postpartum?  No.  It was responsibility and motherhood.  I chose that particular bagel store because it was far and gave me time to be alone yet I couldn't get the thought of leaving my life behind me out of my head.

Today's quote is, "Wherever you dwell your life will find you."  Running away is a temporary fix.  You can run from problems through sleep, vacations, binge eating or any other number of ways but life will be there when you wake up, get off the plane and finish those donuts.  Simply said, you can run but you can't hide.

What do you do when a problem hits you head on?  Are you one of those who tackles it right away or do you think about it for days at a time?  I'm that way with technology.  When I have computer stuff to do, I suddenly think of a million other things I could be doing but when I have accomplished those million other things, the computer stuff is still there waiting.

A few paragraphs ago when I contemplated my Houdini impersonation, please don't think I hated my kids or my life.  I was just fried!  The good news is that stage of my life is done and gone.  My kids can now bathe, feed and dress themselves (and a lot more!).  Does technology still scare me?  If I'm being honest with you then yes although I have to say we have gotten to be much better friends.

If you need a break then take it.  Go outside, take a deep breath, treat yourself to coffee.  Whatever you need to do, go and do it.  Life will be here when you get back!

Have a great Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

GIVE YOURSELF THE CREDIT YOU DESERVE

Good morning everyone and happy Monday.  I'm glad to be back and illuminate you with my words of wisdom!  Haha!  Those of you who know me outside of my blogs know that I can be very sarcastic and self-deprecating at times.  A lot of times!   On a more serious note, what I share with you is not as much wisdom as it is experience.  I do this because I know that all of you have probably had similar if not identical experiences.  I'm just here to point them out!

We choose to seek wisdom and knowledge from outside sources yet many times, what we need to know is already there.  Today's quote is, "Much of the knowledge you need to live is not outside but already within you."  If you want to learn about history or architecture, I would imagine you would have to do some research online or at the library but the knowledge that I am speaking of is neither history nor architecture.

The knowledge that I am referring to has more to do with your instincts and that "feeling" you get blended in with experience.  Not the knowledge found in books.  Your intuition tells you what is right and wrong because the feeling is visceral.  Your intuition tells you who you can trust and who you should veer away from.  Your experience plays an equally important part as well.

Some knowledge just can't be found in any Barnes and Noble.  Go with your feelings and recall every situation you have been in, from every person you have met, and from all the places you have seen.  It is the accumulation of both that will give you much of what you need.

Want to make a great pie crust?  I have just the book.  Want to know if you should buy that swampland in Florida?  I think you already know the answer to that one!

Have a great Monday everyone! ~Love, Amy

THE GIFT OF LIFE

Good morning everyone and happy Friday!  Do you feel blessed to be alive?  You should.  Even if you were cranky this morning, it is still great to be alive!  Today's quote is, "Life is a blessing and a gift you've been given - use it wisely to live learn and love."

A phrase being used by some teens and others who think they are being funny goes like this,  "F my life."  Really!?  "F my life?" That is not only unfunny but heartless.  How can you have such little heart for yourself?  "F my life" sounds too close to "end my life."

Sure we have hard times and difficulties.  Of course there are bumps in the road but whatever crap is slung your way, you must remember that it is only temporary.  The bad times don't last forever but when we are suffering we think that's all there is.  We have a hard time seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

My heart breaks for those who think of ending their lives.  No one can know what that individual feels to make them want to take such drastic measures and that leaving is the only way to end suffering.  You can return from sadness but if you choose to go, there is no coming back.

Age has no relevance when it comes to learning, experiencing and growing.  My college years are way behind me but I continue to learn all the time.  I know the world is a crazy place but I'm far from done.  There is so much more to do and see, to feel and to live for.  In moments of darkness, know that what I say is true and spoken from my heart.

That tunnel may be long but no matter its length, it will eventually end and when it does, you will walk out and be in the light.

Thank you again for reading my quotes and my blogs.  I am truly grateful.  Although I will be here during this holiday week taking walks, having some me time, and seeing clients for Reiki, I will be taking time off from my daily posts for this week only and will be back on Monday, April 22nd.  Wishing you all a wonderful Passover and a Happy Easter.

Have a wonderful Friday everyone! ~Love, Amy

LOVE YOURSELF AND IT WILL REFLECT BACK

Good morning everyone!  Happy Thursday.  Do you know how important you are?  Do you know that you have value and are worthy of love and respect?  If you don't know that about yourself the rest of the world won't either.  We have our moments.  Our pants are too tight so we call ourselves fat.  We didn't go to the gym so we call ourselves lazy.  We made a mistake and we call ourselves stupid.

Be kinder and more forgiving to yourself.  If your pants are tight, eat less the next day.  Didn't make it to Zumba?  Go another day.  Mistakes?  Sometimes too many to count.  Cut yourself some slack.  We've not yet reached the highest vibration of perfection.

Today's quote is, "Foster a relationship with yourself before anyone else - show respect and love for yourself and the outside world will be your mirror."  What is it that you would like reflected to yourself?  It is said that we find those who mirror ourselves.  If we are positive and upbeat the same type of people are drawn to us.  Same as if we are miserable and unhappy allowing the complainers
to find their way to you too.

The first and most important relationship you have is the one you have with yourself.  Let the world know you are awesome.  That's not being conceited.  It is acknowledging the fact that you are a valuable piece of the puzzle of this world.  Shower yourself with love and respect and you will be both respected and loved!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

FINE TODAY AND BETTER TOMORROW

Good morning and happy Wednesday everyone.  Feeling OK?  The cold is slowly leaving us and so is cold season.  Some days we feel better than others but know that every day we are improving!

Today's quote is, "You were fine yesterday but today you are even better."  Every day is a brand new day and a brand new start.  If yesterday you were just fine then today you can be better than fine.  We strive to be the best we can through diet, exercise, yoga, meditation and sleep.  Never underestimate sleep!

Our goal should always be to better ourselves.  Our age may increase but it doesn't mean our bodies have to catch up.  It is important to work hard on yourself for physical and emotional well being.  Our bodies and minds carry us through our days.  We have one of each.  Only one, so it is our job to keep them both healthy and well.

If you feel sluggish, get more sleep.  Change your diet and exercise plan.  Eat lighter and take long walks.  Know that you are fine the way you are.  You are beautiful, wonderful and amazing but if today you feel good, know that tomorrow you have the potential to feel great!

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone! ~Love,Amy

PERMISSION GRANTED

Good morning all.  Happy Tuesday.  How did you wake up this morning?  Chipper and rarin' to go or slow and sluggish.  Every day is a new day.  Some nights I sleep great and am ready to jump out of bed while those restless nights leave me yearning for more zzzzzz's.

When we are tired we are fragile and more likely to show our fragility to others.  Maybe we are not as patient or kind.  Maybe we are overly sensitive.  Other times we go through a personality change is when someone says something to us that we don't like.  Maybe someone was rude and offensive to us but that should not change our mood.

Today's quote is, "If someone put you in a bad mood you are to blame - without your permission it is not possible."   Have you ever had a horrible boss?  A nasty acquaintance?  A rude encounter with a stranger?  Haven't we all heard words tumble out in a way that you have to wonder if you have heard them correctly?  Those not nice words can send you in a tailspin or you can recognize that the nastiness spewing forth has nothing to do with you.  If that is the case, why would you be in a bad mood?

It is not so easy to ignore unflattering comments and negativity but don't let it ruin even one second of your day.  Those comments are a reflection of the one who made them.  Those comments are coming from a dark place where you were not invited and why would you want to be?  Why go to a party knowing you will have a miserable time.  Send back the RSVP right now and tell them you already had plans!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

TAKE THE TWISTS - TAKE THE TURNS - TAKE THE RIDE

Good morning everyone.  Happy Monday.  Hope you all had a great weekend.  I began my drive this morning as I always do.  Right out of my driveway, left at the end of the road, a right and then another left but this morning there was a detour and I had to go a different way.  I had to travel on a road I had never been before.

I am not just a creature of habit but directionally challenged as well and not partial to detours.  I had no choice this morning.  It was either take the new way and get to work or go back home which was not an option.   Too late to avail myself of my google maps, I continued on this new road and found that I actually got to work sooner than my normal way!  Who knew?  Not me!

Today's quote is, "A wavy road cannot be straightend out - take the twists the turns and the curves and see what happens."  This quote is obviously a metaphor for the twists and turns that life throws our way.  Why panic when things don't go your way?  Sometimes you think your way is the only way and then a sudden change happens.

Maybe that change is the better way.  Maybe that change is there to show you a new and improved way to do whatever it is you want to do just like a new road can take you down a different path.  Life can be a fun and exciting adventure if you let it.  Take the twists and take the turns.  Blind trust is not always a bad thing.  The Universe will never let you down!

Have a wonderful Monday everyone! ~Love, Amy

STILL AND ALWAYS LEARNING

Good morning everyone and happy Friday!  I'm very happy to be here.  No special reason.  Just happy that it is Friday and I woke up in a wonderful mood.  I hope you can feel it because I'm doing my very best to share it with you.

If you woke up feeling kinda, eh because of something that happened yesterday, let it go.  Just let it go.  Yesterday is gone so your focus needs to be on today.  If you are pondering why something went wrong you also need to let that go.  Sometimes things go wrong in order for them to be right!

Today's quote is, "No plot has been made against you - the Universe is teaching you a lesson that you have not yet learned."  We abhor the times where everything seems to go wrong no matter what we do but how many of us stop and look at the choices we made to create these wrong outcomes?

Many of us refuse to take responsibility for problems we ourselves have created and instead place blame where it should not go and worse, take the paranoid route where we think everyone is against us.  Not true my friends.  When we find ourselves redundantly playing out the same scenes over and over again yet our desired outcome is not different it should be obvious that it is us and not "them."

It is clear that we have made that plot happen but for whatever reason, we are not seeing it.  We are not seeing our actions as the cause of our undesired results.  This is why the Universe is here.  The Universe is your support system.  The Universe is here to protect and guide you but also to be your teacher.  If you can't learn something the first time, the Universe will keep throwing out those lessons until you finally get them.

Add caption
You deserve happiness.  I deserve happiness.  We all deserve to be happy and to be on the receiving end on a life filled with abundance.  If the same situations keep cropping up in your life you need to stop and wonder why and then make the correct choices.  Until you've learned that lesson you will never make it to the head of the class!

Have a wonderful Friday everyone! ~Love, Amy

GET OUT OF THE DARK AND TURN ON THE LIGHT

Good morning everyone.  Happy Thursday.  How are you all today?  Not every day is the best day ever.  Not every day is great, good or even O.K.  Some days just suck on every level.  Yea, I don't like those days either but we all have them no matter how much we try and place a positive mask on them.

Today's quote is, "Dark moments will find you - succumb not to their forces but reach for the light that shines within you."  Sorry if that one is a bit heavy but I think it needs to be addressed.  We all face moments of darkness from time to time but we need to know what to do when we get there.  That light that shines deep within you is called hope.  That's what you need to reach for, cling to and grab onto in moments of darkness and despair.

Hope is the thing that keeps us going.  It is what lets us know that all will be well in the end no matter how awful it appears right now.  I bet you think this is where I say giving up is easy.  Giving up is harder than holding on.  Giving up is the darkest place there is.  It means there is nothing left.

At moments when you do feel depleted and you've had enough, take time to reflect on all the good things surrounding you and not just the people in your life but your favorite chair, the feel of the creaky floor, the sunlight pouring into a room, the aroma of coffee, the sound of laughter.  The things we take for granted but the things that make up life and living.

Dark moments will find you and sometimes when you least expect them but push them aside and let them know the strength within you is stronger and the light within you is so much brighter!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! Love, Amy

RESOLUTIONS - NOT COMMITMENTS

Good morning everyone.  Happy Wednesday.  I'm going to take you on a trip right now.  No, not a guided journey, but a short trip back in time.  Three months to be exact.  Remember January?  More specifically, do you remember January 1st and the resolutions that you made for the new year?

It's an American tradition or perhaps worldwide but we here on the Atlantic side make resolutions every new year to lose weight, attend more exercise classes, spend less money, see friends more often yada, yada, yada.  The list goes on and on and on, however; here's the problem with resolutions.  They usually don't last a week.  Its one of those things that sound great at the time but somehow fizzle out rather quickly.

Today's quote is, "Don't make resolutions - make commitments."  I actually posted this on my Facebook account on January 1st.  In theory, making a resolution is a great idea by definition alone. A  resolution is defined as a firm decision to do or not do something but saying, "I'm gonna lose weight" is different than driving to a yoga studio and taking a class.

When you make a
commitment to something you are already actively involved.  Making resolutions is nothing more than talk.  Talk that can be both ignored and pushed aside allowing every excuse under the sun to take center stage.  When you commit to something you are more likely to stick with it.  Even the word commitment sounds stronger than resolution.

If you want something accomplished, don't resolve to get your act together, think about it, wait till a sunny day or next week or the next full moon.  No!  Commit!  Commit to whatever it is you want to do because when you commit, you are halfway there!

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

HOLD ONTO HOPE AND DON'T LET GO

Good morning everyone.  Happy Tuesday.  Have you ever wanted something so desperately that you wished and wished even though the "it" seemed unlikely?  That's what children do.  They don't see the impossible.  Of course as we get older, reality sets in and we see what is and isn't feasible but the magic of children is that they never give up hope.  It is a shame that as we move on in years our hope begins to dwindle.

Today's quote talks about hope and its importance.  "Rather than sink to the depths of despair - choose instead to hold onto a piece of hope no matter how small."  This is the time when we need to be like small children.  When we need to hang onto even the tiniest piece of hope so that our dreams do not fade into the blackness.  When we want something desperately that's where our focus needs to go.

Hope is an intangible thing which is why it is so easy to let it go but just because you can't see it, you certainly can feel it.  That feeling of hope although intangible is palpable especially when related to a dream or desire.  When you give up hope you truly have nothing.

With every fiber of my being, I believe in today's quote because I know how easy it is to give up and to fall into an abyss of despair.  I know how hard it is to rise up but you must rise in order to honor yourself.  Yes!  Holding onto hope is also a way of honoring yourself.

You are letting yourself know you are deserving.  No matter how distant that dream may be, never let it die.  It may not happen right away, tomorrow, next week or even next year but it doesn't mean it never will either.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

LET GRACE BE YOUR GUIDE

Good morning everyone.  Happy Monday and happy April.  It's April Fool's Day which as a kid was the best day ever.  You could say all kinds of wacky things and laugh yourself silly.  Not quite sure what I would think is a good April Fool's joke today.  Let me know if you think of one!

Today's quote is, "Be guided by grace in everything you do."   This is not an April Fool's joke.  This is real.  This quote is saying to step back and take a moment when things are difficult and you don't know what to do.  Being guided by grace is being guided not to freak out and to take a deep breath before judging anyone or anything be it person or situation.  Being guided by grace is allowing things to take a natural flow rather than edging it towards the right or the left.

Again, not so easy.  Freaking out is the go to for most of us.  Yes, even those who meditate.  Until our meditation brain takes over, our old brain will be the first to react as it always has.  Meditation takes practice.  Releasing old habits takes practice too.  Think of grace as a smooth ribbon of highway leading you calmly down the road.

Never take a long deep breath for granted.  Take advantage of it.  Its right there waiting for you.  It is in this deep inhale that the right decision will be made and that the right situation will find you, with grace and dignity.
