DO NOT RSVP

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday.  I love a party!  The best ones are when you meet new and interesting people.  The best ones have great food and beverages.  The best ones are filled with joy, fun and infectious laughter.  Those are the parties I like going to.  We've all been to those awful boring parties too.  The ones where we want to leave as soon as we arrive.

Parties I try to avoid are pity parties but at least those are made for one and you don't have to stay very long.  The worst parties of all are blame parties.  The ones no one asked you to help plan but one you have been summoned to.  Today's quote is "To lay blame is bad enough - don't send out invitations to an innocent party."  If I have described your friend you know exactly what I am talking about.  That friend of yours who leaves you exhausted while spewing out blame for all that is wrong in their life.

Blame is another topic I have covered in depth before but every so often you need to know you are not alone and that you are not a bad person for no longer wanting to indulge this so called friend in their tiresome rants.  It takes courage and guts to admit when we are wrong.  No one likes to admit that.  But if things don't work out the way we planned what we need to do is reflect on how we could have done whatever it is, differently.

We are responsible for our actions.  We are responsible for the decisions we make, the money we spend, the foods we eat, the people we allow into our lives and everything else that we do.  We will make good decisions and bad decisions.  We will hopefully learn and grow from every experience in our lives.  As far as the one who decides blame is their best friend?  You don't have to partake.  Let them live happily or unhappily ever after!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love. Amy

LISTEN AND LEARN

Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday.  My grandparents passed many years ago but I am lucky that both my mom and dad are still with me.  As I have grown older with them they have both opened up more about themselves and what they have gone through in their lives.  This is especially true of my mom.  Mothers and daughters of all ages have a unique relationship.  We fight, we get on each other's nerves but in the end, there is nothing a mother wouldn't do for her daughter and that is certainly true of mine.

In these later years my mom has shared many stories with me that as a younger woman I was not prepared to hear.  We put our parents on pedestals of sorts and fail to acknowledge the obstacles they needed to push aside and the struggles that held them back.  Even as adults, we often refuse to see them as the human beings they are.  If you are one of the lucky ones and your parents still inhabit this earth, listen to them.  Listen to their stories, their struggles and how they overcame their hardships.

Today's quote is, "With a humble heart - listen to the stories of others and let them teach you and show you compassion."  The best teachers are the ones who taught us and often those teachers are your parents.  The first adults you came into contact with.  They were there to love you, guide you, protect you and teach you.  You may not have wanted to listen to them but as you got older you realized they were right.  I think the best gift I got my mom was a refrigerator magnet that said, "Your mother was right about everything!"  Indeed she was and still is.

Experience brings knowledge and that knowledge can come from anyone who has crossed our path, especially our parents.  Never underestimate the stories one has to share.  Quite often there is a lesson buried somewhere in that story.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday.  Go go go!  That's all we ever seem to do.  Relaxing is hard as our minds are usually consumed by the next thing we need to do although I've become very good at it.  I'm positive that meditation has helped me in my ability to be in complete stillness.  It's wonderful.  I love to be outside with Mia, both of us sitting on my mossy lawn enjoying the summer air.

When I come back to myself my list begins.  First on my agenda is giving gratitude to all my blessings, (of which there are many!)  Second on the list is giving gratitude to myself for all the hard work I've done to get me to where I am.  Does that shock you?  It shouldn't.  There is nothing wrong and everything right with being your own champion.  Today's quote is, "Turn around to admire and acknowledge the person you once were - the one who helped  you become who you are and be there to greet them upon their arrival."

No matter where you are today in that dream of yours you are further than you were yesterday.  We are all so hard on ourselves.  Self-degradation and criticism comes far to easily from our mouths but what should be acknowledged is how much growth we have experienced even if it is ever so slight.

Think of yourself as a beautiful flower that blossoms from a tiny bud.  Little by little that bud expands and and out come those gorgeous petals of red, pink, orange, yellow, blue, lavender, green and purple.  The process from bud to bloom takes effort and is both a miraculous and stunning sight to behold.  The effort it takes you to blossom and bloom should be met with accolades, recognition and praise.  Admire your efforts, acknowledge your efforts and greet this magnificent person you have become!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

A DIFFERENCE OF PERSPECTIVE

Good morning everyone.  Happy Tuesday.  What is the first thing you see when you open your eyes?  Depending on the time of year I either see absolute darkness or the sun coming through my window.  I prefer the sun although pure darkness can be very peaceful.  It is all the way you look at it though, isn't it.  A difference of perspective is what makes some view the darkness with dread and daybreak with hope.  Different eyes see different things.  How do your eyes see a storm?  Can you find the beauty or do you only see destruction.

Today's quote is, "Ahh the beauty with which we can view the world can also be seen through eyes of jealousy and ugliness stinging our eyes and burning our soul."  Let's for a moment talk about Facebook shall we.  We've seen beauty splashed all over the place from the "love of my life," to the "best vacation ever."  Who wouldn't be a little envious of a beach vacation in the middle of February but do you think to yourself, lucky them or I hope they get a really bad sunburn.

When you see a post of someone's success are you truly happy for that person or do you secretly hope they fail?  Be honest.  Its hard to be honest but its also hard not to acknowledge the river of jealousy that sometimes courses through our veins.  Jealousy and envy cause frowns to form on otherwise beautiful mouths.  There is enough out there for everyone.  Just because someone has found success doesn't mean you can't find it too.  Now turn that frown upside down and be happy for your friend sitting on that lounge chair.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

NAVIGATING THROUGH

Good morning everyone!  Happy Thursday.  What is the first thing you do if you are outside in a rain storm?  You look for shelter.  What happens if shelter is nowhere to be found?  You get wet.  And what happens if you get wet?  Nothing.  You stay wet until you get dry.  I bet you were waiting for the climax!   Nope.  There isn't one.   The pitfalls of getting caught in a rainstorm are getting wet but that's about all that will happen.

Life has many pitfalls.  A unexpected rainstorm at a birthday party is a bummer but only a disaster if you make it one.  Getting cut from a soccer team is disappointing but only devastating if you allow it to be.  And who is the we I am talking about?  Why it is we parents who take a non event and turn it into a catastrophe ending up with less than desirable results.

Today's quote is, "Shelter your children not from disappointment but teach them to navigate through with dignity, integrity and grace."  It is natural to want to protect the ones you love and boy do we love our children, however; what is the cost of such vigilance?  The answer is young people who don't understand loss, defeat, civility or poise.  Imagine how difficult life will be for these children as they grow into adulthood lacking skills of humanity.

We all want to succeed but sometimes we fail.  Maybe we know why and maybe we don't but we all got through it.  We all want to be number one but number one is reserved for the lone one standing.  We cannot always win but we will not always lose either.  Our children need to experience triumph and defeat.  Let's make sure both are done with humility, compassion, and grace.

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

THE MOMENT IS NOW

Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday.  I'm pleased to say that I have actually taken care of many things that were on my very long list for the summer.  Not everything but lots of things.  You know how I was able to do that?   Clearly I had the time as I have been away from my day job since the end of June but that's not all.  I simply didn't put things off the way we all love to!  Not once did I wake up and say I can't wait to throw out dated prescriptions from the medicine cabinet and toss out empty containers from underneath the sink but every day I would say  today's quote of the day like a mantra, "Pretend that tomorrow is today."

How we love to put things off.  Who wants to do chores?  Who wants to spend their time doing mundane tasks but who feels great when they are completed?  I do, for one!  And while cleaning out drawers and cabinets are not really a big deal, think of the other things we put off doing.  Things that would improve our lives tremendously but instead we think tomorrow will be the day.  And you guessed it.  Tomorrow never seems to come.

Step one is thinking about the changes you wish to make.  Step two is thinking how you will make them happen.  Step three is taking action.  All three steps are difficult and take courage, strength and follow through but if you look at all the things you've successfully accomplished in the past, take heed to know it can be done again.  It is easy to wait for tomorrow but if you think of tomorrow as today, the moment of change is that much closer!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

WHY REVISIT PAIN

Good morning everyone.  Happy Thursday.  I love sitting on my deck on these hot summer mornings.  Nothing says lazy like the heat that rises all around me.  On these days even the bugs take a break and hide under the shade of the flowers that adorn the space.  I do my best thinking this time of day.  Nothing earth shattering but the list I need to get to for the day and maybe some future planning as well.  Sometimes things pop in my head that have nothing to do with anything, just some random thoughts.

Unfortunately these random thoughts lead me to remember things of the past and not always pleasant remembrances either.  When that happens I get up and move my body to readjust my focus on the insects crawling around or the sounds of the morning.  If I don't do that I find that I am back in that exact place of hurt and I definitely don't want to be there.

Today's quote is, "To reminisce of past hurt and anger brings us right back to that place that time and that moment."  When you remember something wonderful you can feel your lips forming an upward curve creating a smile but when you remember an incident you wished had never happened you can feel your brow furrow and your stomach twist in knots.

Our minds have an incredible ability to bring us right back to the exact moment of painful occurrences and happy ones.  Why choose pain?  We have all been hurt by others or ourselves but it doesn't mean we need to punish ourselves by going back there.  If you find yourself doing that, stop immediately, take a deep breath, take a walk and leave the past behind.

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

EACH DAY IS A GIFT TO BEHOLD

Good morning everyone!  Happy Tuesday.  Each day brings something whether it is a challenge or just the rising sun.  Ha!  Just the rising sun?  That alone is a miraculous event.  We don't always notice the joy in the ordinary or extraordinary but know that today's quote needs to be embraced.  "Behold each day as a cherished gift to you by the highest power and vibration."

If you have a challenging day ahead, be happy that you are here to face it.  If everything is status quo, be grateful for the momentary lack of stress.  Know that within each day there are possibilities and opportunities you may not have taken advantage of.  If you didn't today, there is always tomorrow and that is why each and every day should be looked upon as a gift.

We take advantage of our days and our months with the assumption that there will be more to come but what if there weren't?  We never really think about that.  I'm not saying to live your life recklessly because "you never know!"  I am saying to appreciate each day for the sheer monotony and the unexpected pleasures offered by each.  In other words, each and every day is indeed a gift to be cherished.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

EMBRACE YOUR CHALLENGES

Good morning everyone.  Happy Thursday and happy August.  I've made no secret to you about how much technology baffles me.  There have been times I wished that it never existed but then again if it didn't exist, neither would this blog.  I've learned so much and as technology changes, I have and will continue to learn.  What is it that has been difficult for you to learn.  What is it that you have avoided so that you didn't have to?

Today's quote is, "Embrace the challenges you've been given - they are there for you to overcome and to learn."  We all have challenges.  We entered this world as blank slates knowing absolutely nothing.  We couldn't walk, talk, or make a sandwich but over time we learned.  Walking is probably one of the biggest challenges we faced but we did it!  Have you ever heard a baby say, "screw this, I'll just stay in my stroller."  Of course not.  Talking too can be rough when you are learning.  All those sounds and shapes that you have to make with your mouth, yet we speak volumes now.

We begin life with challenges and they keep coming.  What are you going to do?  Give up?  There are times we want to do just that but our goal in life should always be to move forward and not be held back by our own selves.  The word embrace conjures up thoughts of a warm hug which is exactly what you need to do with any challenge you face.  Embrace that challenge as if it were a warm hug.  In this way you will be able to move through fear and trepidation with courage and self-confidence!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy
