WEAR YOUR OWN CLOTHES

Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday.  How are you going to dress on this chilly November morning?  Will you wear something warm enough to protect you from the cold?  When I was in college my mother had given me her old mouton coat to wear.

For those of you who don't know what mouton is, it is the French word for sheep.  So yes, I wore a fur coat.  Please don't judge me here.  That coat was old and is long gone!  Sorry for the interruption but you needed to know.  OK, where was I?

Ah, yes.  I was talking about wearing my mother's old coat.  I loved that mouton coat.  I loved the feel of it, the look of it and the smell of it.  It was my mom.  She was very much alive (and still is) when she gave it to me. When it was on me I was immediately brought back to my little girl self seeing my hand in hers and remembering how I would rub her arm to feel her and the soft fur.

It is amazing how an article of clothing can transport you to a different time.  Admiring myself in it I even looked like her.  But I wasn't her.  I was me.  I still am me with a mixture of influences from both my parents as we all are.  BUT...I am my own person.

Today's quote is, "The cloak of your mother and father have been worn and handed down - will you wear their's or your own."  It takes a long time to become who we are.  We are influenced by our caretakers; our parents and grandparents but we aren't them.  We certainly take bits and pieces from them.  We take their morals, their values and their beliefs but as we get older, we form morals, values and beliefs of our own.

We must do this to be independent beings.  I saw my mom and God as one, their commands intertwined.  I prefaced every sentence with, "my mother said." One day I just stopped as I shed her thoughts to create my own.  The voices of those who raised you will always be in your mind and part of your being but that doesn't mean you become who they are.  Keep what you want.  Shed what no longer serves you and find who you really are.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone!  AND have a wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving.  My next blog will be Tuesday, December 3rd.  Enjoy the long weekend~
~Blessings and Love, Amy

WE NEED THE SUN BUT THE RAIN AND SNOW TOO

Good morning everyone!  Happy Thursday.  We all love when the sun shines.  We love beautiful days with crystal clear blue skies but we need rain too.  We need storms of all types from gusty winds, pelting rains and heavy snowfalls.  Think of a blustery, Autumn day.  The wind clears the air and blows the leaves.  Rain washes away those leaves and snow blankets the ground creating a clean cover.

In our lives we are the creator of  our own personal storms.  They may start small and slow before the crescendo of thunder and lightening but after that things slowly return to normal and to a place where we can start over and start fresh.  Today's quote is, "Storms are there to wash away debris and clear away all obstacles that caused you to trip and fall."

I use the word storm as a metaphor to describe the tumultuous times in our lives.  Smooth sailing is what we hope for but a brilliant sunny day could change as quickly as the flutter of a hummingbird wing.  Even if we keep our eyes on the skies and our ears tuned to the weatherman, Mother Nature will always do exactly what she needs.

The hurricanes we create are sometimes crucial to creating change.  You must remember that as much as we like to think change is gradual, beautiful and easy, it can also be sudden, ugly and difficult.

We create storms by ending relationships, friendships, moving, and changing careers to name but a few.  A friend of mine recently quit her job after being verbally abused by her boss.  She didn't go to work thinking, "today is the day."

She went to work on a Tuesday and changed it from ordinary to extraordinary when she walked into Human Resources to say, "I quit."  Only after she quit did she realize she will no longer have a paycheck.  Scary?  I'd say.  But this was the necessary storm in her life to allow a welcome change.

Leaving a job that provides you with income is scary.  We get comfortable in our misery until we can't take it anymore.  Conjuring up a storm is sometimes our only way out but it is also what is needed to wash away all that gets in the way of our desired success, whatever that may be!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

TURN DOWN THE SOUND

Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday.  Rarely do I need my alarm clock in the morning. My body is programmed to wake up at the same time every day but on those days when I'm really tired, the beeping of that tiny clock is deafening!  Another deafening sound we hear is the one inside our own minds telling us to give up.

Stop that train right now.  Today's quote is, "Lower the volume on the voice of defeat."   The voice that says "yes" is always so much lower than the one that says "no."   Once we go down that road its difficult to find our way back.  We continue to spiral and list all the things we can't do rather than celebrate our successes.

I will reiterate this sentiment until you shed those beliefs like a snake sheds its skin.  You've DEFINITELY heard this from me on several occasions and I'll keep repeating myself until you believe not me, but yourself.  It doesn't matter if someone thinks your idea is crazy or may never work.  It matters that you believe in yourself.

Let me tell you a secret.  There are more people out there hoping you fail rather than succeed.  Envy? Jealousy? You bet, with a little "misery loves company" thrown into the mix.  The biggest way to defeat yourself and break your eardrums is to share your desires with the wrong person.  If you really need to tell someone talk out loud and tell yourself.  OR!  Tell me!  I am here for you all.

The right time to jump ship from your routine might not be now but it is time to build that dream brick by brick.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

A ROSE IS A ROSE IS A ROSE

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday.  For those of us who like routine its good to know that Tuesday follows Monday no matter what else is going on in the world.  I for one love routine and structure.  It helps me to organize my day.  As varied as it may be on a Friday I take comfort knowing that Saturday is hours away.

Our routines may change but our day always begins when the sun rises and ends when it sets.  Within any given day we may feel confusion, struggle, enthusiasm, frustration and a million other emotions but we are still the same person in the morning as we are at the dinner table and while our appearance may certainly change, our inner being at 14 is the same at 40.  What changes is the way in which the lighting hits our perspective.  Growth is not just in height and width but in compassion and understanding.

Today's quote is, "Transformation of a wave is constant yet it is still a wave."  As children we are under the influence of our parents, in unison with their beliefs but as we age we begin to question those antiquated convictions and form our own opinions.  This is all part of the growth process that turns us from children into adults with thoughts and beliefs of our own.

If we were children who feared thunder, hated liver and loved puppies that child most likely still lives within us today but the child who was taught to hate and to hold grudges hopefully grew to understand and have compassion.  Like a wave in the ocean that is constantly moving, we ourselves continue to grow and transform to become better versions of the child we once were.

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! ~Love, Amy

LIGHITNG THE FIRE WITHIN

Good morning everyone.  Happy Tuesday.  November always seems to signal the beginning of winter even more so than December.  The days are definitely shorter and darker and my morning walks with Mia require wearing a down jacket.  November is also the perfect time to throw in some logs and get the fireplace going.  I love watching the flames in blue and orange grow until the entire space is illuminated.

I enjoy listening to the crackle of the wood when those roaring flames die down knowing that if I want to get it going again I just need to add another log.  Our passions sometimes run like those flames.  They start out small, rise to a crescendo then peter out when we think we can't possibly live the life of our dreams and pursue what really sparks our own personal flame.

Two questions that need an answer is why did we lose confidence in our abilities and when did this happen?  Perhaps someone made a comment that was taken to heart and over time we agreed with their negativity.  This is why I say never listen to anyone but do listen to your inner voice, the one that knows you like a book, read and re-read many times.

Today's quote is, "Embers from a flame take time to extinguish and are easily reignited."  Life may get in the way of many things that take precedence at the moment like driving to the soccer field, cooking dinner and figuring out that excel spread sheet but never allow it to get in the way of your passion.  Your passion is still there!  It's just that its been dormant, simmering below the surface waiting for you to reignite that flame!

You have one life to live, live it to the fullest with passion and with joy!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy

THE POWER WITHIN

Good morning all!  Welcome to Thursday.  Every day we start again.  Sometimes with sleep still in our bones while other mornings find us in touch with our inner Wonder Woman and Superman~Its nice to know that coffee can take you from sleepy to stupendous but if that doesn't work for you try reaching into the depths of your being because all the power you need is right there!

Today's quote is, "Awaken to the power within - its there."  This may be one of my simplest quotes yet but also one of the most powerful.  We don't always tap into our own inner strength because we either forget or misplace it while doing a hundred other things for everyone else but ourselves.

How can one do for others when one neglects oneself?  It is time to find that inner power that's been lying in wait and not rely on a catastrophe to arouse it.  Luminous yellow is the color that coordinates with our third chakra and is located right in the center of our bodies.  Our gut is the place that holds our inner strength and courage.

During my Guided Meditation classes I have my students visualize luminous yellow, bright as a golden sun feeding you courage, strength and power.  I am offering you all your own personal class right now!  Reach inside yourselves and feel that beautiful bright luminous yellow color surge within you to awaken the power I know you have, its there waiting for you to turn it on!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone~ Love, Amy

WORDS CANNOT COMPARE TO ACTIONS

Good morning everyone.  Happy Tuesday and happy November.  I happen to be a rather clumsy person.  I've walked into the corner of the dishwasher more times than I've stubbed my toe on the bedpost.  The dishwasher has been in the same spot for ten years, the bedpost - twenty.  Each and every time I do that my husband will make a joke as I writhe in pain.
I have to admit that sometimes I am a funny site even though I would prefer to hear kind words or have an ice pack handed to me.

If someone dear to you is having a rough time, words are mere platitudes that don't offer much aside from momentary comfort, if anything.  Genuine care and concern is demonstrated through what we do, not what we say.  Today's quote is, "Soothing words cannot compare to soothing action."  This is simply a new play on those old words we've heard all our lives.  Actions speak louder than words.

Actions do speak louder than words.  Why is it that we always wait for a tragedy to strike to offer comfort and assistance?  Texting is so prevalent these days that hardly anyone bothers to make a phone call but how nice is it to have a real conversation!  Actions don't have to be big and grandiose.  A phone call, a smile, a hug.  Such small things yet so incredibly meaningful.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! ~Love, Amy
