RESOLUTIONS - NOT COMMITMENTS

Good morning everyone.  Happy Wednesday.  I'm going to take you on a trip right now.  No, not a guided journey, but a short trip back in time.  Three months to be exact.  Remember January?  More specifically, do you remember January 1st and the resolutions that you made for the new year?

It's an American tradition or perhaps worldwide but we here on the Atlantic side make resolutions every new year to lose weight, attend more exercise classes, spend less money, see friends more often yada, yada, yada.  The list goes on and on and on, however; here's the problem with resolutions.  They usually don't last a week.  Its one of those things that sound great at the time but somehow fizzle out rather quickly.

Today's quote is, "Don't make resolutions - make commitments."  I actually posted this on my Facebook account on January 1st.  In theory, making a resolution is a great idea by definition alone. A  resolution is defined as a firm decision to do or not do something but saying, "I'm gonna lose weight" is different than driving to a yoga studio and taking a class.

When you make a
commitment to something you are already actively involved.  Making resolutions is nothing more than talk.  Talk that can be both ignored and pushed aside allowing every excuse under the sun to take center stage.  When you commit to something you are more likely to stick with it.  Even the word commitment sounds stronger than resolution.

If you want something accomplished, don't resolve to get your act together, think about it, wait till a sunny day or next week or the next full moon.  No!  Commit!  Commit to whatever it is you want to do because when you commit, you are halfway there!

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone! ~Love, Amy
