NEVER UNDERESTIMATE A SMALL CHANGE

Good morning everyone.  Are you ever bored by the clothing that you wear, the set up of the furniture in your house?  Has your workout routine become stale?  Dinner yet another chore when trying to come up with something interesting to prepare?  Keep reading.  I promise this is not a commercial.

I make chicken all the time and I mean ALL THE TIME!  Even though there are a gazillion ways to make chicken in the end it's still chicken BUT I have found that by using this incredible rub, my grilled chicken breasts have become a huge hit!  It is still chicken but with an amazing new and different flavor.

All I did was add different spices yet that one small change made a huge difference.  I had my house feng shuied years ago.  The purpose was to place furniture and objects in a way that is not only pleasing to the eye but to give a feeling of comfort and security when you enter a room.

Objects were moved, thrown out and added.  Not every change was significant yet what was discarded, moved or added made a huge difference.  Today's quote is, "Significant changes need not be brash but sometimes incredibly subtle."

I used my dinner recipe and my feng shui story as an example of how a small change can have a big impact.  Just think about how you feel after receiving a compliment.  It could change not just your mood but your entire day and that compliment could be something as small as, "nice shirt."

We all walk away beaming when someone says something nice to us because it feels good.  If you are not happy with an aspect of your life then change it but know that it doesn't have to be grand.  Start small, for sometimes those small changes are the ones that truly make the most difference in our lives!

CAN'T CHANGE THE SITUATION - CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE

Good morning all.  Do you ever find yourself in situations that are unpleasant and go with that unpleasant feeling all day or at least while you are there.  What can you do about that?  More than your think.

Today's quote is, "If a situation can't be changed change the situation."  Not every situation can be changed.  Sometimes you have to be where you don't want to but you can change your viewpoint and your perspective.  Did you ever have that obligatory dinner you had to go to with little or no interest in anyone who might be there?

We have all been there but instead of looking forward to it as if you are getting a tooth pulled, find something positive about where you are or simply look at it in a different way.  Maybe that person you didn't want to speak to is not as bad as you think and just needs a second chance.

I'm all about second chances.  First impressions are lasting but what you see could have been impacted by something else.  Be open minded.  Look at that situation in a new way and leave behind that first impression.  We all have bad days.  Who wants to be judged by a bad day.  I don't!  That's for sure.

My quote is really not about changing a situation as much as it is about changing your view point on it.  Remember, everything looks better in the sunlight!

LOVE AND SUPPORT=THE RETURNS OF FRIENDSHIP

Good morning all.  Hope you had a nice start to the week.  It's always that first day that's hard and hopefully the rest of it goes as smooth as a well oiled machine.  You know what else is nice when it goes smoothly?  Relationships and not just with a spouse or significant other but with your friends.

Today's quote is, "Love and support should be the only profit from friendship."  Many of us rely on friends in a way that is completely different from the way we rely on a spouse.  There are times when we feel the need to confide in someone of the same gender. The understanding is there and we can relate better to one another because we have been through a similar or perhaps identical situation.

Friends should be there for mutual support and love but there are those who seek friends for the sole purpose of benefiting themselves.  That is not friendship.  Can friends help you?  Of course they can but that is very different than befriending someone for what they can do for you.

Many years ago, I befriended a woman who described me to others as "her new best friend."  That right there should have been my hint.  It was a whirlwind friendship.  We spent a lot of time together and were the best of friends in a rather short period of times then all of a sudden she was too busy to see me.

I couldn't figure out what I did wrong.  Why weren't my phone calls being returned?  (pre-texting!)  When she did return my phone calls, why was she always busy?  Honestly I had no idea what happened.  We were the best of friends and then I didn't exist.  I found out that I wasn't the first.  This was a pattern for this person.

Befriend someone, have fun, get what you need and then be on  your way.  It turned out that all this person was interested in was the school I worked in at the time and the right introductions.  Once she achieved what she wanted she had no use for me.

I was hurt because I couldn't believe that someone could be so cold.  I was hurt because I couldn't fathom doing that to someone.  I realized not everyone has pure intentions.  Do you know anyone like that?  If you don't, fantastic!  If you do, be careful.  Profit is not what you receive from your friends.  Mutual support and mutual care is what friendship is all about!

BE WHERE YOU ARE

Good morning everyone!  It's Monday.  Don't say ugg.  Just be there.  Today's quote is, "Wherever you are be in that place - not in your head."  Your head does all kinds of things.  It tells you equally what's great and what sucks but if you are just THERE it may be neither one of those.

There is a possibility that it could be better than you think or worse than you can imagine.  I know you don't want to go to the worse place but don't anticipate that that's what it will be.  Anticipation plays such a large part in our lives.  We imagine all sorts of scenarios good and bad, mostly bad and then wait for them to happen or to manifest.

Why do we do that?  We do that because we can't imagine the best things happening in our lives.  Change that and be in the best place.  The place where everything works out.  Isn't that the better place to be?  I know I would rather be there.

Right at this moment as I am writing this, I am eating the best chocolate chip cookie I have eaten in a really long time.  That's because I don't normally eat chocolate chip cookies for fear that I might blow up to gargantuan proportions.  OK, how stupid is that.  Do I do this everyday?  No.  Will my body change overnight?  No.

Should I just eat my cookie with gusto and enjoy it?  Absolutely.  I am in the moment.  I finished my chocolate chip cookie and I feel great!  Satisfied and just fine.  You will never be in the same moment ever in your life so be there, stay there and leave your head out of it!

OPEN YOUR MIND, BROADEN YOUR VIEW AND SEE THE LIGHT

"Wide is the mind of those who have been enlightened" - next next Friday

Good morning everyone!  We made it to the end of the week.  I hope it all went well for you.  I have what I think is an interesting quote for today.  "Wide is the mind of those who have been enlightened."  So what does it mean to be enlightened?  If you look at the dictionary meaning it says to be open-minded, broad-minded, knowledgeable and wise.

What rings true to me is being broad-minded.  Just last week I posted that I had recently become obsessed with Nicki Minaj.  Not sure if you know who she is but she is a widely outrageous performer not only in the way she presents herself but in the lyrics and music of her songs.

My Facebook post received several likes but also a, "you've got to be joking."  When I first heard some of the songs my new friend Niki, my skin was crawling.  I couldn't believe how uncomfortable her lyrics made me feel.  I couldn't believe the outfits she slid into, yet I couldn't stop listening or watching.

Obviously she did her job.  She created a persona so outrageous you simply couldn't take your eyes from her or lower the volume.  Not what you would think I was referring to when I said enlightened right?  No I wasn't talking about Buddha sitting under a tree which is what you all thought I meant right?!

You see there are so many ways to find enlightenment and to be enlightened.  Niki Minaj opened my eyes and challenged me to see something I never saw before.  Open your eyes everyone.  Enlightenment doesn't mean you have to sit under a tree for days on end, it means to look at something in a new way.  Enlightenment means to be open minded and to broaden your view.

It means to look at something you've seen so many times before, notice it and say WOW!!!

WHAT LIES UNDERNEATH IS THE REAL BEAUTY

Good morning all.  Another day and another Thursday.  When you open the front door today what will you see or will you be able to see at all?  Will you be so consumed by what is coming next that you don't even notice the beauty in front of you?  There is always something interesting to focus on.

It is like that with people as well.  Today's quote is, "Beauty may open doors but what lies behind that beauty is what keeps them open."  Who doesn't react positively to something beautiful and attractive?  The first thing that attracts us to someone, if of course we don't know them is their appearance.

It is the physical beauty and presentation of someone that draws us in but what happens when we find out that the inside make up does not quite match up to what we see?  It leaves us wondering how such a beautiful package could be shielding such ugliness.

I remember a woman who I thought was absolutely gorgeous but the more I got to know her she seemed like two different people.  Simply stated, she was not nice, friendly, warm or caring.  What did her outer beauty matter.  The more I got to know this person the less attractive she became over time.  Her true self seeped through her skin.

Physical beauty is a wonderful attribute to have but what is underneath that façade is the actual true beauty indeed!

BE KIND - IT'S EASY

Good morning everyone.  Just as close to the weekend before as it is to the one coming up.  As always I look forward to them.  I love my Saturdays because of the new boutique I get to go to for Reiki sessions.  My day job is five days a week and even though I am going to work on a Saturday, Reiki is never work.  We all know that when you do something you love, it is not work at all.

Speaking of work, what is your work environment like?  Do you work in a large office with many people or a small place with just a few office mates.  What are the people like at your place of business?  Are they warm and friendly or cold and expressionless.  Don't you hate when you greet someone with a smile and they either just stare at you or look at their feet?  I know I do.

Today's quote is, "Are you confident enough to be kind."  I find it so ironic that I work in a large place with lots of grown ups who constantly preach the importance of kindness and compassion yet some of these grown ups walk right past you as if you are a pane of glass.  I never understood that until I was older and realized there was nothing wrong with me.

The problem is with the person who is dismissive and not just the dismissive person but their confidence level.  Clearly they have none.  When one lacks confidence and desperately wants to appear strong and in charge, the easiest way for them to do that is to come across as cold and emotionless as if showing emotions is showing weakness.

Whether you have more education than someone or less gives no one the right to act superior.  If you are in the same work environment then obviously you are all there for the same reason and share more in common than not.  More college degrees do not make you smarter.  More college degrees give you more paper to put in a frame.  Be kind to your fellow co-workers and the people you pass on the street.

Walk your halls with confidence and pride but what will be most remembered is the kindness you showed.
